Hedman LTs on 305 TBI

I have been thinking about getting some Hedman LTs, custom X-pipe, two mufflers (don't know what kind yet), and tips that exit before the rear tire. I have been doing a lot of searching on this forum and I still have a couple of questions and any help would be appreciated.

Would a true dual set-up be too much flow for a 305 TBI (if there is such a thing)?
Any advice or tips on installing these (I read through the stickies but those are for the Hooker LTs)?

Thanks in advance.

You can never have too much flow but you can have overkill which will prohinbit flow. Long tubes are not best suited to a 305 modded or not. They just don't produce the exahust velocity and volume that long tubes need to be effective. Most long tubes also have to large of primary sizes which will promote poor scaveging out of the chamber. If you want to go tru duals I would still go with shorties and fab up y-pipe of some sort.

OK, I was also kind of thinking long tubes might be too much. I will probably just get the Hooker 2055s, run it straight to a single muffler, and then have a turn-down somewhere after the transmission. Thanks for the help.

You will be much happier with what you just described. Having it dump under the car will make things aweful noisy though.

TBI heads are your insurance policy against too much flow.

What LT's might do to the TBI brain is another matter. But probably nothing the shorties wouldn't do.

Oh, trust me, I know it's going to be loud. That's exactly what I'm going for. One of my friends at college drove his friends car one day and it sounded mean. It was a 94 Z28 and the owner had made some custom headers that ran to a custom y-pipe, then to a single muffler and a turndown at the end. Ever since I rode in that car I knew I had to fab up something that would be louder than a catback but not open headers, like his.

i have done exactly what you want to do. first, putting in the long tubes is a pain...requires some banging, cutting, and a lot of cursing. don't plan on getting it done in one day. it is worth it though. if you have any questions about the install just ask.

I kinda changed my mind about the longtubes. I am planning on getting headers and a y-pipe and a muffler right after it and then a turndown, though. It's gonna be loud!!

Thanks for the response, though, CamaroEFI.

Anybody have a recommendation for a muffler for my set-up (Hooker 2055s with y-pipe, cut-out, muffler, and turn-down right past the trans.)? I want the car to be loud, but not sound like open headers, just something better than the typical cat-back sound.

Yup but you will want one that is 3" in and 3" out. Borla and a few other companies sell similar products. The dynomax ones are very popular.
