Installed Edelbrock TES Coated headers on a 91Z.

Hi guys, I installed a set of edelbrocks coated shorties with there y for a 3" catback. I also installed a dynomax cat back. This was done on a 91Z that originally came with the N10 option dual cat setup(****), and ripped that **** out. The previous owner had installed headers, but the flanges broke loose from the ypipe, and I don't even know who made these headers, and I know alot of headers. Here is what I think of the dynomax catback. The 3" mandrel pipes, started out as a 3"ID and some how, turned down to a 2 1/2" OD. The kit comes with a super turbo muffler, and 3 clamps, along with the flange on the I-pipe for the cat. fit was fine, but we cut the I-pipe near the axle to assist us putting it over the axle, and any repair later on, and the catback had hangers, but no fasteners. Thats it for the catback, the headers were great. I removed the previous headers, I sprayed some liquid wrench on the bolts, and let it sit for a few, and because kevin(His 91Z), had just backed it in, the motor was still hot, which helps not break header bolts; low and behold, no breakage. The TES headers I simply installed from the top, I removed the plug wires, plugs, and air pump nozzle, the bracket was gone, it was removed from the previous owner, this car was filled with surprises, lol, after that the header slipped in with some pressure on the receiver/drier, and it slipped down in. The driviers side, also had the plugs, wires, and alt rear brace, removed, this header took an hour and a half to fit in, at first one would think its not possible, not true. You need to push the header flange up to the front of the car, then slide the back down, then it will slip down, nothing else needs to be done. You do not need to use the bracket for the oil cooler lines or most of the other parts, except for the gaskets, and bolts a clamp for the y pipe, and the rest was extra, besides the pipes them selves. We installed the y with the gaskets and tightened the clamps up with good clearance, and attached my formulas old cat, started the car up after snugging them to what I am used to using, and feel comfortable with, and the same for the bolts going into the collectors, and same for the ypipe clamp. I started the car up, and warmed it up, I revved it, and wow, it sounded like a serious lt1, or a reworked ls1, it prr'd like a son of a *****, It was ****! Then I installed the catback. The exhaust has quite a rumble, and isn't really loud, but a super turbo is nice, because it flows well, but keeps it quiet, like a sleeper but efficiently. The car pulls way harder by 1750 rpm, and pulls alot harder in your face, as if you were hammering it, it makes the torque seem more abundant, and after 80 mph the cars still pulling as good as it would with manifolds and large y in second.

I May buy a set of the same ones for my iroc, instead of the summit shorties, I like the fit and how much a difference they make, a second faster in your 0-60 ft times, and 20-25 horses.

i don't know how much faster my TES made my car. I had some major bogging going on. (I made a couple test runs that day before going to the track. WTF? It only does it when I'm at the track!) It's clear that I've got some tuning issues somewhere. Before the track closed, I did manage to gain a tenth in the 1/4 mile. I can feel it pull a LOT harder at 3k and even more at 3500 rpm. I can't wait to put an L98 in between those headers though

exactly, a whole second will not be had, especially with a stockish motor

edelbrock makes that claim of dropping a full second off your 0-60 time, and 20-25 horses on stock motors. The motor I put them on has just over 40K miles on it, and is a 355, and the car feels like it could pick up that much compared to before, even with the old headers. Were taking his car to the track in a few weeks, ours opens up when I'll be out of town, so I'll be there the next day in my iroc, its coming out tomorrow.

I picked up 20 hp with the addition of TES and a high flow cat(before and after dyno runs). At the time only prior mods where Edelbrock carb and performer intake.

Exactly they CLAIM a full second gain. That would be a lot more than 20hp. In any case, headers are always a good addition and i'm glad you have had success with them.
