I wouldnt go with either. Everyone seems to not like the Edelbrock headers, and hooker super comps(1 3/4") are overkill & $400 uncoated.

Click on the ACS advertisment(top left) and look into Headman 68460's They are $258 and coated like the picture. They have 1 5/8" primarys which would work great in your application, and not break the bank in the process.

Are you planning on running duals? How much HP are you planning to build up to? Going to keep TBI?

If you plan on getting full length headers, like the Hedman 68460s mentioned above, it is going to take some work to get them in without hitting some things like the A-arm, some brake lines and maybe the steering arm. These pieces can be modified and plenty of people are running them on their cars, just know that is going to be harder to do than installing the Hooker or Edelbrock headers.

If I had to choose between Edelbrock and Hooker, I would choose the Hooker headers.

So would it be easier to install shorties instead of full length headers?? I plan on keeping my TBI setup, just switching to a 350. Hope to get around 340-350 horse out of it, so i dont know which headers are best for my application?

One of my friends had a 89 305tbi Formula. He grabbed a 350 out of a Caprice and threw on shorty headers. We all went to the track and he ran 16.03

Youll need to build on the motor a bit to get solid performance. I can even make a video of his runs if you wnat to see

Yes, it would be easier to install shorties instead of full length headers. Both the Hooker and Edelbrock headers come with a y-pipe and they follow the stock location. If you get full length headers, you will probably have ground clearance issues. You also have to get a y-pipe or x-pipe custom made for your full lengths if you get them.

SweetS10V8-What kind of shorty headers did your friend put on? I have heard from a lot of people that shorty headers are good up till about 400 HP.

Hooker calls their p/n 2055 emissions-legal shorties with y-pipe "Super Comp".

I cant remember,Ill have to give him a call. I was really trying to get across that jsut plopping in a 350 doesnt equal a performance vehicle

Oh, OK, I see what your saying. I'd still like to know what headers he used, though, if you can find out.

But, back to the original question, get the Hookers!!

Why does everyone prefer the hooker headers over the edelbrock?

All you gotta do is look at them. The design of the hookers is far, far superior to just about anything else out there, especially the edelcraps.

I went with hooker shorties super comps and they are sweet. A friend of mine has a connection to a guy who owns his own garage. He did the install. It took about three days but that was not focusing on my car totally. They fit great and only needed a new dipstick for clearance. Hookers have a nice quality to them and sweet y-pipe.

Called him last night, found out a few things. First off, they are Hooker #2460 ($159). He had a custom y pipe made. and 3" single all the way back

2nd is that he was running 15.5s not 16.03(another guy was 16s)

3rd, he has always had a problem with stalling. He found out it was his fuel pump. He had it replaced and said the car has never felt so fast. He figures he might have picked up .5 sec!!! it made that much of a difference.

Hes still mad he cant beat my L98 car

on my '90 L98 w/ 700R4 trans, the passenger-side Hooker 2460 needed to be dent-tuned to clear the auto trans bell housing flange. Not too thrilled since I ordered them ceramic coated. Even after that, the proximity of the collector flange melted a small hole in the factory plastic torque converter dust cover, too close. I tried putting in the stamped steel torque converter dust cover I had laying around, but not enough clearance for it to fit. good clearance for angle-plug heads, nice design. Had to replace the factory dip-stick with a Lokar, the Hooker didn't have a mounting point. I could've further defaced the ceramic coating by welding one on, but enough damage to coating already done with designer dents.
