Header Gasket leaking?
hey guys
I had headers put on my 84 TA a couple years back and then the car was stored for a couple years. I pulled the car out last night and discovers and exhaust leak where the header is mounted to the motor. I was able to determine where the leak was coming from (making a ticking noise when idling and excellerating), tightened all the bolts and still the ticking noise was present. Is it common for the gaskets to some how fail and crack or tear causing the exhaust to leak? I'm planning on changing the gasket this weekend since it looks fairly simple to get at, only 6 bolts. Should i be looking for a better quality gasket? I originally went with headers as i was told the old manifolds were warped.
Thanks for the help

It's been so common for so long, a guy became a millionaire claiming to fix the problem. Ever heard of Mr. Gasket?
I went with Fel Pro 1404s rather than the gasket that came with my Hookers. Haven't had a problem.
But, you were told your exhaust manifolds were warped? Fairly rare. I have seen bad head port surfaces that caused leaks. I honestly have never seen leaks caused by warped factory exhaust manifolds (but I haven't been around that long...).

thanks for the reply. The more i think about the shop that put my headers on the less credability i think they have. I wouldn't put it past them to put on some crappy gasket, they must have thought "here comes another kid". I'm gonna pick up another gasket and go from there.
Thanks again
