1987 LG4 Love and Hate
I love the engine in my numbers matching car but hate the fact that it sprung a leak in the oil pan and timing chain cover after I trusted a moron friend to replace the timing chain. Live and learn. So I want to replace the oil pan gasket with the one piece Fel-Pro and have seen hit and misses with that product. I'm at the point where I just want to keep my car as is and not transplant some monster engine in that that will break the sound barrier in speed. Who likes the Fel-Pro one piece oil pan gasket?

I have that gasket in 2 of my small blocks and I'm very happy with it. Follow the directions and use the plastic assembly bolts that come in the kit and you should have no leaks.

Yup. it works fine.
Don't bet on doing a flawless job with the motor still in the vehicle.
It's VERY difficult to get it PERFECT laying up under there in the funk of 10,000 years of leakage, wallowing in the schmutz with all that stuff dripping on you and you can't get your hands in anywhere to clean up the surfaces etc. etc. etc. Trying to "save time" by not pulling the motor will make the job take twice as long as whatever time you think you'll "save", and produce an inferior (leaky) result with a high risk of a do-over. (which SURE AS HELL doesn't "save" any time...)

^ I agree, If you are a guy like soak who pulls engines every five minutes and was born with a socket wrench in his hand has all the tools and hoists and stuff it does make sense to do it that way. However if you are a kid working in his parents driveway.....
Get the kit as mentioned before, put the car somewhere you can do the job and the hose will reach. Jack it up. on Jackstands hopefully drain the oil and remove the filter. Then soak it good with degreaser and let it set for 30 minutes then hose it off with the hose and as much pressure as you can get, the engine that is, and the ground hopefully concrete underneath as well. put down some plastic to lie on, wear old clothes you don't mind messing up. You may have to get a jack tojack up the engine some. It will be dirty but it will be worth it.

If you are doing it on moms concrete driveway, if she likes her driveway, take care not to get the grease/oil on it.

Re: 1987 LG4 Love and Hate
Ok I'm sold on the gasket and have been doing a lot of research on you tube and on here on how not to remove the engine. As far as cleanliness, the undercarriage and engine is very clean as I never let any gunk build up there. I have been wiping up the leak area every weekend as for it not to turn into gunk. I don't think mom would care if I mess up my own garage floor. Lol. It's not a daily driver so I can take my time doing this. I just wanted to know how good the gasket was aside from the reviews from fel-pro.

Make SURE to check your distributor clearance ANY TIME you are raising the engine...
