worth it?
Hey, i've had a set of long tubes sitting around for a while now that i've been meaning to put in my 82 T/A. i just have a couple of questions...
1. What's the difference in flow betwen a set of Flowtech long tubes VS Flowtech shorties?
2. What will be the difference in sound if any?
I'm well aware that my shorties with single 3" and an 80 series flows plenty for my 355 but it just sounds like a*s in my opnion. I'm either gonna go with 30 series or 40's. at this point, i'm more worried about the actual sound and look of the exhaust as opposed to the functionality.
here are my long tubes:

Dunno if i'll Y em into single 3" or just run either 3" or 2.5" true duals with side dumps infront of the tires.
The car is a project, i'll probably never be happy with the exhaust sound but from what i've heard, long tubes with 3" pipes and 30 series are pretty close to the sound i'm looking for.
Thanks for any advice,
Dave

Steady-state flow is about the same. Pulsed-flow will be slightly better with the long tubes. Hard to say whether you'll notice a difference.
Duals are a pain with 3rd gens. Ground clearance typically suffers. Long tubes into a single pipe won't sound signficantly different from shorties into a single pipe.
The only 3rd gens I've seen that had that old "muscle car sound" were at the track with open long tubes. Sooner or later we all have to come to grips with the difference between muscle car sound and today's high performance sound, because the honest truth is today's LT1s and LS1/6's runs circles around yesteryear's muscle.
(This weekend a guy had a 3rd gen out at the track that I hadn't seen before. Long tubes, glass packs, 45 degree bend pipes that dumped behind the wheels routed under the rear, jacked-up rear end. I don't know what he had under the hood, couldn't hear it because I was driving down the return road in the '57 when I saw it. Looked terrible, wasn't any faster than my Camaro if his dial-in was correct.)

well, this is about the sound that i'm going for:
http://www.bescaredracing.com/movies/idle.wmv
he's got a little more cam than me but it's close.
and here is mine now:
http://whitelightning2.kicks-***.org...0and%20rev.wma
for some reason i like that higher pitched almost "tinny" tone...
--also-- i have a TH400 which is a little wider than the TH350 and ALOT bigger then the 5spd's....
maybe i'll just swap my 80 out with a set of 40's....
