HP gain with new exhaust?

I have a 91 Camaro RS with the 305 V8 TBI. I was wondering how much HP gain I would get with a new exhaust system from the block to the street? Or would I notice anything at all?

Depending on the exhaust system, a good 3" catback should give you a 10/15 Hp bump at the flywheel over stock.

The 305 TBI loves a good exhaust system, a good cat back system and headers could get you as much as 30 hp. Very good place to start.

A full exhaust goes a lot farther on these cars with a little chip work. The stock tune gets thrown off a bit with simple mods like a full exhaust. Non the less your results will be nice and you should gain power throughout the whole band and upwards of 20 at peak levels. Do not be alarmed if your car deveops a slight surge afterwards though. That is the stock chip sucking.

so If I had $1,300 to spend on performance mods on the engine what would your suggestions be? Save longer and get a real engine (350) or can I mod this enough? I was playing with the Idea of new pistons, new heads, a new cam, with the same block and intake, then doing the exhaust also.

Go to the TBI board and at the top there is a thread named something like New to TBI...read that and it should give you a good idea of what you can do with your engine.

After you have a full exhaust, look into burning your own chips. Then spend the rest of your money on a nice heads and cam. Your money should also be put into your suspension but I will assume that is a given. Check out the "new to TBI" thread at the top of the TBI page fo more info on what makes these cars tick.
