Loss of low end with open headers normal?

OK, I finally got my modded L98 running. It's now got a ZZ4 cam, and SLP headers. It's currently running wide open headers. I also have the stock 2.73's and stock 700r4. (for now )

It runs great, and it's noticeably quicker, but it seems to be a tad sluggish at low RPM's. I know that gears and torque converter will help, but will the exhaust system help with this in the meantime? I know technically it will help a little with the low end torque, but will it be noticeable?

....I hope to have my Carsound cat and Loudmouth installed in the next few days, so I guess we'll see!

My car is always a little snappier in the low RPM's going through my exhaust, but when I open the cutout... it screams alot more in the high RPM's and makes more overall hp & torque.

With open hedders you have less scavaging at low RPM's. That is why you feel the "lack of torque."

Ever heard of "torque tubes"?

Are they long-tube or short? What size?

Generally shorty headers make less low-end power. So do large tube headers.

Shifty is right on the money. If your headers are designed to be run open, they will have extensions or megaphones on them to provide scavenging waves. They will still give you a torque peak higher in the rpm band than a full system.

torque tubes?

yes, 18" of pipe sounds about right

from what my bud told me they help the exhaust flow better and allow the O2 sensor a better reading

another one,
