help me out here.
had the exhaust done with a new muffler and tail pipe and tips back in march/april. one of the hangers on the exhaust broke a few weeks ago. im finally getting back to the exhaust shop. when they originally did it i figured they would have made the tips evenly spaced but they didnt and didnt tell me until AFTER they had it all welded up. they said that there was no way to make it even. here is what it looks like. when i go back to have them fix their POS hanger should i tell them to fix the tips too. were they blowing me full of smoke when they said that it would work to make them even?

Don't know what their reasoning would be...
I however, can't see any reason why they could not make them even. A little bit of work may be involved, but thats what they get paid for.
The only problem I can see now is that they may try and charge you to 'refit' the tips. I guess it will depend on how well you know these guys or what kind of a shop they are really running.
I wouldn't put up with any **** about them not being able to line them up. To me, that is straight bull.

i think their reasoning was that the spare tire well was in the way or something along those lines.

Yes, they are blowing smoke up your ___ to say it can be corrected. That's just being plain lazy.
This is a fairly common problem when getting an exhaust fit/fabbed at a shop. The underside of the rear of these cars is not symmetric and most shops put the exits to hug the outermost parts of the underside on these cars. Obvoiusly, the one side housing the spare has more width.
The (easy) solution, chop 1.5"-2" off the drivers exit off the muffler outlet pipe to make it hug the trunk well. This will balance out the problem.
I would personally be pissed to pay $$ for some slapnut to jackleg my exhaust and then be charged extra to have the (same) shop re-fix it the way it should have left the in the first place.
*edit.. re-looking at the pic.. your pass side pipe doesn't seem to be all the way out to the pass side either contributing to the imbalance (assuming the tips have a center inlet)

no the tips are no center inlet. the inlet on the passenger side tip is on the passenger side of the tip and the inlet on the driverside tip is on the driverside of the tip.
