Reducer help?

Reducer help?
ok i decided im gettin a 3" cat-back exhaust but i only have the stock 2 1/2" or 2 1/4" cat. so i wanted to just weld on a reducer, the problem is how can i do this with chevys funky device taht connects the cat and the intermidet pipe( the think usin 2 bolts that are slid on to the pipes? how would i make it be 3"
