You should be able to pass with any header with AIR provisions. I would look at a set of TPI headers so that you don't pay all that money for a 2.25" y-pipe.

Sorry I didn't look closely. You said it was one of the only kits avaialble for your car so I assumed you were looking at the TBI specific edelbrock headers. They come with the 2.25 y-pipe. Even still the overall design of the edelbrock headers is average at best. I would consdier the 2055's that five7 linked you to. There really isn't a better set out there. The only other ones that are smog legal and on a similar level of performance and quality would be the macs or SLP's.

2055's have a CARB EO # tag welded onto the #1 primary tube. The application is '86-'90 TPI single cat vehicles. They have A.I.R. tubes/fittings, O2 sensor provision, and y-pipe to a 3" slip fit cat.

I don't see what you think is wrong with them. They're perfect for what you've got and what you need to comply with.

listen to five7kid, those hooker headers are among the best for our cars that include a ypipe, the added benifit is the are 100% legal because of the air fittings and o2 bung, plus imo they have the best premade ypipe for our cars, i was gonna get some but i found a deal on ebay, and i dont need legal stuff, cause i dont live in calanaziornia.

in my opinion you have the edlebrocks the hookers and the slp headers, they are the 3 best looking ones, the pipe for the hookers is the best outta the three so go with hooker or go with your wallet, any of these are way better than your manifolds and will be fine with the stock motor, all three will support most any mods you make, well over to about 400-450hp, then serious exhaust systems benifit the motor more.

As five said you cannot go by the summit pictures. Just read the fine print and it even says picture may not represent actual product.

Here is a link to the macs. They are the only other header out there that have a y-pipe that matches the 2055's. Personally, I would go with the 2055's.

Mac headers

Here is a pic of the macs. I couldn't find a good pic of the 2055's but a you can search for that.

Contact ACS (site sponser) for the Hookers (coated). Also, thunder racing (site sponser) sells them along with Jegs.

Those links should take you right to where the 2055's are listed.

You won't. Coatings are done by another outside company. Therefore, you either need to buy it from them direct or sent it to them to have them coated. I would just buy them direct with a ceramic coating from ACS or jey-hot. Do not get chrome unless you want to watch it fall off over time. Ceramic coating is what you want.

It is my opinion that the Edelbrock units are garbage considering what other pieces are available for similar prices.

I was dissappointed, after receiving my Hooker 2460 headers, with the construction of the Edelbrock headers. Before my new headers, I was only dissappointed with the exhaust leaks. I am sure someone can trace this down to my heads or gasket, though. (especially because the leaks were gone with the new headers)

I question whether those MAC headers are totally legal, meaning C.A.R.B. number supplied. The earlier the air is introduced to the exhaust, the more heat is present to aid in making new bonds, and the more time this has to take place.

If you are sincerely set on spending these smaller amounts of money,do not invest in coating.

The Hooker 2055's are definately totally smog legal, and are the best for our cars as a total package (headers and Y pipe) I would consult with ACS (link at the top of the page) they are really decent guys.

Trust me, you don't want a chrome header, they burn, discolor, rust through and flake. Nickel is even worse, it's a cheap incomplete chrome job, and even less durable. Go with the polished ceramic coating, it is thermally and durability wise WAY better and almost the same cosmetically.

Good luck

Troy

Or just go with the SLP's which are stainless and don't worry about paying for the coating.

No header is ceramic. Many steel headers are ceramic coated for look and function. Many of the header manufacturers sell ceramic coated headers for additional costs, though this is generally poor compared to those contracted by the header owner for coating by Jet-Hot and the likes.

If you need to save money do not worry, however, expect ugly headers, hotter underhood temperatures compared to manifolds and coated headers, ugly headers once again, and failing headers sooner than coated pieces. Depending on the weather in which the headers are used, the headers could last 5 years or 15 years, uncoated.

I plan on changing to long tubes before my coated pieces fail, and let's just say I am too cheap to buy long tubes right now.
