No emissions pre-95 in NC

Has anyone heard about that in NC they are planning on not giving emissions tests to pre-95 cars for an inspection starting 2005 in NOrth Carolina. Has anyone else heard about this

Pre 96, starting in 2006. It will be a rolling "10 year" thing, so in 2007, no inspections on 97's, so on and so forth.

...You still need to pass the visual though.

What strikes me as wierd is.....

Why do the newer cars, that probably have a better chance of passing emissions have to test for them, and the older cars, that are probably out of tune and emitting more polutants NOT have to test for them?

Seems back as$wards to me.

There has to be some sort of regulation in effect for the 95% of all cars on the road that are 10 years old or newer. Most drivers don't ever tamper with emissions and if they do, well, that's why they check.

Checking the older cars just wastes money. By comparison, they're just not that many on the road, and most of them pass anyway. Of the cars that fail, half of those are guys like us that have ways around the test, so they really only regulating a tiny percentage of cars that are just plain junk. It's just not worth it.
