Want to shake the ground, scare children, and not spend all my money.
lol
Everyone asks "What exhaust system is the loudest", and that ISNT what I'm asking....
I want loud, but more than loud, I want DEEP, ground shaking exhaust sound....
I dont want something thats gonna drone at 2000 RPM's or whatever, but want something with LOUD idle, and something that you feel almost more than you hear....
Doesnt have to be a cat-back, could be mufflers and I'd just have the system made up....
Thing is, cant be sooo loud that i'd get pulled over all the time for it....so no open headers, and i'd say that bullets/race mufflers are out of the question as well....
Bigger piping = deeper sound, correct?
Dumps/turn-downs also = deeper sound + shakes ground more? Thanks,
-Chris

Loud mufflers and lack of pipe off the outlet makes for unreasonable bass tone, loud wot.
My old setup...
was enough to hurt my ears with bass tone coasting down. The car idling in the garage, while not **** the neighbord off loud, would shake the mirror on the wall in my bathroom in the house 25' away from the garage.
On my old camaro, I had a 2.5" terminator muffler where the cat was (temp setup untill I could make the rest of the pipe) had a annoyingly deep bass tone and rattle interior parts on the car. Granted, you need header and a real built motor to have the 'holy s--t' powerful idle sound, you can mimic power w/o having it.
Drawback.. being that loud and still getting spanked by a Festiva makes you look rather silly....
Just my opinion though..

Well i've got Edelbrock TES headers.....better'en stock, eh? lol
I'm confused by what you said though....
no pipe after the mufflers sounds good? or does it sound bad?

The shorter the pipe off the outlet of the muffler.. the louder (bassier) it is.
I personally hated it which is why I redid my muffler setup (and am going to redo it again because it's still louder, bass tone is fine though, than I want). It's neat for a short peroiod of time but after awile it just get annoying (unless you're only driving it ¼ mile at a time).
The longer the outlet pipe off the muffler (dual especially) the higher the tone and more hollow (mustang-esque) it gets.

i seen several nice dual setups with bullets/spiral flows with dumps (turn downs) right after the muffler exit, just before the rear axle, and it sounds incredible!! Real loud, bassy and gives the holy .... sound!! But deffinately more loud that what you want.
Its hard to fit your description cuz their really arent any inbetweens.
I hear adding a bullet somewhere where the stock I pipe is and running another one over the axel in the stock location provides a real nice sound, while giving performance, bassy notes, and not being overly loud like SLP loudmouth and straight bullets. I happen to like the loudmouth/bullet style exhausts. Just perfect sounding.

The setup I had is a half and half situation. Cruising speed (idle to 2200rpm) it was not loud but bassy (annoying so to me) but after the (wild speculation) velocity of the exhaust was enough to just pass by the perforated tube in the muffler, it was nearly equivilant to open pipes (which I really don't like).
The bullets don't do a very good job of being sanely quiet at any rpm because (more wild speculation) of the case size not permittin enough dampening material to adequately quiet the exhaust noise.
I've noticed the larger the case around the core, the more the high pitch/tone is fileterd out leaving you with the deep sound. The more narrow but longer, it's more quiet throughout the range but, the high tone seeps past as wellmaking t seem just as loud.
I don't think there is a happy medium that can be had with just one muffler. It seems like to have a deep, agrssive tone at idle you'd need 'bullets' but, to keep the sound at the upper rpm range, you would also need something like a flowmaster in place of the cat in the same system.
Or.. maybe I just need to go to sleep.. i've had a long day...

i made a dual setup for my car. 2 catco cats, x pipe, and 2 bullets. the cats quieted it out some, wasnt obnoxiously loud like my friends ls1 with x pipe and bullets. it sounded awesome, it droned a little at highway speeds, but assumed that cause it dumped before the axle. it was kind of low, but my car is lowered so that didnt help, but also was too loud for my tastes, so its for sale...

for sale, huh?
How much you lookin to get....
send me a PM :-)
So using two mufflers (err..4 if i go true duals) will lower the volume while keeping the sound deep? how much more restrictive is it?
Thanks,
-Chris

with big cubes and a cam, the flowmaster 80's wouldnt be a bad choice.
With my L98, my 80's with stock cat and hooker heads gives a fairly deep tone at idle, although its more quiet than i prefer. At 2000-3000rpms cruising it sounds good. Not sure exactly what everyone means by "drone" or "droning", but it has a nice sound to it. Deep and aggressive. But at WOT, its like nothing i heard before. Different than alot of other 80 series i heard before. Smooth tone, with just a bit of rasp to it. (The headers got rid of alot of that raspy gargled sound) Its aggressive, loud, and has nice medium of high pitched and deep sounds. Really nice. I got to try to get a clip of it. I dont think a video camera would do the sound justice tho.

I am pleased with my current exhaust system as far as deep and "ground shaking" goes. I have set off car alarms and made my moms frames rattle just by starting my car.
But as stated above, open headers > *
Driving around with a open y pipe was pretty cool too

i have the hedman headers with true dual 3" pipe and they both route to the middle and is dumped before the axle with the dynomax bullets. It rumbles like a hell and at WOT it sounds like a nascar. But also i have a 383 a it rapes when you get on it
