SMOG component removal-HOW?

How do I remove all my smog equipment? What effect will it have on my car's performance?

I just moved to GA from CA....so now i get to rip that stuff off.

I will cut out my cat and just put more 3" in there...

What components must I remove, and which holes shall I plug up )avcuums and such)..........any help is greatly appreciates

This is in reference to a 91 RS L03 305

Are you sure you want to do that?
Can you tune bins?
What are your goals?
Are you keeping the computer?

Ahhhh hell, just get a saws-all and some short pieces of hose with screws stuck in the ends and have at it.

Seriously, I would just leave it be until you have decided what kind of engine you are going to put in it and if you want to retain computer control.


But, to answer your questions in order:

Removal is self-explanatory- it is up to you how much you want to remove and how you go about it.

Probably a negative effect. SES lights, poor mileage, run like dog poop etc. Its there for a reason.

Components to remove- AIR pump and related, heater valve, EGR
and whatnot.


I do envy your non-emissions status.

It is a pretty cimple procedure. Leave the EGR be for now until you can do your own chip work and tune around it. EGR is actually one of those good things and is fairly hidden not to be an eye sore. Check out the stickies in the TBI forum. There are links to AIR removal that show pics of the entire system. Also, try a few searches. Removal of the AIR is basically the same on all 3rd gens so any post you dig up should explain it well. It is a fairly common thing to clean up the engine bay.

Cliff notes.

Remove AIR but leave the cat and EGR.
