Problems with new converter

Yesterday I had a new converter installed (Catco 9118) and my car ran fine for about 10 minutes then started to bog on take off. Now it's really hard to start and does not want to stay running, has no power below 2k rpm but wont rev past 4k rpm. Is this something related to the new converter or could it be something completely different? The only mods to the car are an open element and a Banks cat-back.

Any help would be appreciated, Chris.

is it possable it was installed in the wrong direction? that could cause it to not flow and kill your car like you said. first thing I would do is have someone rev it up for you and you stand back at the tailpipes and see how much flow you have to make sure its your problem.

It was put on the right way, I stood there and watched the guy do the whole thing. I supsect it might be something realted to the fuel system but I am curious to know if any one else had any problems after putting on a new converter.

The 9118 is a TPI direct-fit 3" cat. It couldn't be installed backwards without significant modification.

If you replaced a stock converter with it, you may have thrown the computer for a loop. I don't know if that could explain all your symptoms, but you'd probably get better answers on the TBI forum.

ok since it was direct fit and it cant be the wrong instalation I would still go back and see how much exhaust flow you have before saying for sure its an exhaust issue. It does sound like a problem with flow though either in the intake end or the exhaust side. also if your car is running rich you may have burned it up and clogged it so I would check into a couple things like that, its hard to diagnose a car if I cant see exactly what its doing.

Hook a vacuum gauge up to manifold vacuum, then rev the motor to about 2500 rpm. If its a restricted exhaust, vacuum will drop to about 0 hg and stay. A normal reading would be a drop in vacuum as you rev it up, and then it will return to normal or higher than idle reading.
