I was working for Popular Hot Rodding for the last several years. When they did their engine masters' challenge at WesTech Dyno, all these builders showed up over 3 days to do a dyno competition with their engines. I heard from 3 different builders that the Dynomax mufflers were worth almost 30 HP on the Flowmasters.
Keep in mind these are 650 HP dyno mules, your results will vary. But thats' a major difference, having changed nothing else. I learned a lot listening to those guys. The following year, the engine was for a small block, max 360 CID, and it happened again. They had never really gotten all togther like that, and many were from totally different disiplines of motorsport, and would never compete with each other, so they got all excited and squaked their beaks off about how much they learned when there was $100K in contingency awards at stake for dyno thrashing everything the could get their hands on to look for more power. There are a number of very popular parts out there that really don't work as advertised, and some others that are absolutely underrated. You'd be surprised what the "right" combination will do.

Magnaflow. Not as obnoxious loud as a Flowmaster at idle and when crusing. You can hear the stereo and talk to your passengers. But at WOT, above about 2500 rpm, it's loudern'hell. They use a straight-thru design.
