i have a 84 camaro w/ headers and a straight pipe were the cat is and dynomax y-pipe to a flowmaster 80 series muffler. but when i have the car in -R- it rattles and pings or even low-ide, like if the cat was broke...(i have no cat tho) i was thinking the heat shileds but i dont understand souldn't it rattel when i am driving too? Because it is fine when i am crusin'.

Well this is what i would do. See what happens if you put it in reverse then put the parking break on. If it still makes the noise get out and locate the general area that its coming from. Once you have that set the car up on jacks and play around with the exhuast see if you can make it raddle by shacking it. I woul dhave to guess it is tapping something, or a heat shield has made its was loose somewhat and that low idle is just the ride movment for it to hit something. Another thing to check since you said you did a cat delete.. did you or do you still have those AIR fitting lines? My car does and thats whats making a noise on my car atm ( also did a cat delete )

ThanX alot. yea i still have that damn peaice of air pipe that thing is pretty hard to get off, i got out the cutting wheel and got it as far as i can go.. but i plan on getting a 350 long block this april, so i wont have to deal w/ it... but i never thought about the air pipe. thanx i think i can deal w/ intell i get my new power plant. I just never knew what it was.
