Cats and exhaust for turbo TA's

The old owners of the TTA I just bought warned me that the catalytic convertor is on the way out, and they seemed to think it coud be causing excessive backpressure, which isn't a good thing. Is there a test I could do to determine if I have excessive backpressure? They recently rebuilt the turbo, so I'm doubtful that's the problem.

I would suggest guting it if you don't have smog laws to comply with. If you do I would look into buying a hi flow unit from (ramdom technology) for example. Just an opinion of course. Also consider just going with the THDP and cat combo. Good Luck
