Please help!! cant decide on system!

Ok everyone..i tried to do a search on this but didnt turn up to much. I just cant seem to decide on which flowmaster setup i want to go with. Right now i have stock Y-pipe setup into 3" then into the cat(single), then 3" all the way back into the muffler then out 2-1/4. I know the system thats on it is a flowmaster however i cant get the numbers off of it and the previous owner doesnt know either. I want it a little louder then it is now...but i dont want to drive down the road and have all the officers start to pull me over for the loudness. I want to go with the same 3" setup but with a high flow cat. I was either thinking of a 40 series delta flow, or a american thunder system. I know people that have just reg 40 series and that is really loud. Any input, sound clips, or any information at all would be greatly appreciated.

I installed the 3 inch american thunder on mine. it sounded good, just wasn't quite loud enough for my liking til i installed headers and gutted cats. I know a guy with a 305, gutted cat and 40 series and it is decently loud. Neither car however will catch any attention from the police. until......

i've got the 3" american thunder, no cat, and hooker's shorty headers. No trouble at all with the police, the sound is amazing.

I think you need headers, and 1 less cat

ssxmac: are you going 3" all the way back including the tips? or do you have smaller tips? Yeah i was thinking about headers but im prolly just going to leave it alone till i redo the motor which will prolly be in a few years. Dont have the $$ at the moment.

yup, the whole thing is 3 inch from ypipe to tips. If you want a little louder, try dumping the cat if you can. I really dont think the 2.25 tips are choking any noise out of it since its 3" going all the way up to that. Other than that, headers will give you the noise you want. I'd suggest saving up and getting a good set, they should be interchangeable between any sbc so you dont have to worry about compatibility issues, less you go bbc, which, would be totally badass no matter what exhaust you therew on it.

This has been discussed many times, and I have replied many times. Go with the American Thunder 3" system, that is what I have on my 305 TBI and it is excellent. I am still running stock manifolds and y-pipe, but I had the exhaust shop weld in a reducer on my 3" High Flow Catco Direct-Fit catayltic to fit it. It sounds great, but will sound even better whenever I get my headers. SO basically I am running 3" from the Y-pipe all the way back to the stainless tips.
