Why a Y pipe?
Has anyone ever used shorties and ran a exhaust similar to what a longtube setup would? It just seems that there are so many turns and the merge into 1 pipe is so sudden with a Y pipe bent for a shorty. Looking at some of the guys longtube setups got me thinking. Go off a shorty collector straight back and then merge into a Y. Seems the exhaust pulses wouldn't be making so many turns. Any ideas?
On a differetn not has anyone ever used a X pipe, like a dr. gas setup. I alreay have a 2.5 dr. gas X junction from another project waiting to be used.

It's been done. The issue remains the same when you get under the car - no place to run the pipe that doesn't reduce ground clearance.
Check the Kitt-up-on-two-wheels thread for one "solution".

The problem with going this route is the poor location of the shorty collectors. They would require some serious bends and twists to redirect the exhaust down (to clear the k member and sub frame) to the back of the car. Ground clearance is your enemy with these cars.
