Y pipe

Does a 3rd gen camaro have enough clearance to have a 3 in y pipe put in instead of the stock one?

3" before or after the Y? MAC makes a stock 2 1/2" into 3" Y that fits the stock manifolds.

Headers or stock manifolds? Stock manifolds can't accept 3" pipe. Even if you run headers 3" is gonna be too big to start out with. You need to go headers into 2 1/2" pipe and then Y into 3 or 4".

3" is a waste of pipe unless you are pushing 500hp.

Yeah, using 3" right off the headers is gonna make the engine work to hard to push the exhaust out just as if you are running too little pipe. Too small of a pipe and the engine can't get all the gas out, too big of pipe and there isn't enough pressure to move the hot gas through the pipe.

to answer your original question, yes there is enough clearance. check this out:

i wouldn't use it on a stock or mild buildup but if you are pushing some power, yeah it's a cool idea.
