o2 sensor placement

on a 350 tbi with long tubes, is it necessary to mount the o2 sensor in the y-pipe where the exhaust meets or can it be mounted in the collector of one bank. the 02 sensor is a three wire sensor. thanks

From the factory, it was only in one bank.

on a lot of cars yes, but on this it is placed just after the two banks connect in the y-pipe. if it doesnt make a difference, then i will just weld the bung on one collector, just wanting to make sure since the factory one is after the y.

What car is it on?

I would imagine you will be better off closer to the motor, although the 3 wire is heated, so keeping the sensor warm is not so much of a concern.

its on a tbi tahoe. i was worried about possibly not getting a good reading off of one bank alone, but on the other hand my bird has an old school o2 sensor on one bank and seems to work fine. thanks dewey

i was also thinking of having two bungs welded on, one for the o2 and one for the wide band. a wide band would need both banks to read correct wouldnt it?

my 02 is just after the collector in ext pipe. the WB is mirror image on other side. compromise. when i need to will pull plugs and compare banks. when i had xram 6 of 8 were perfect and 2 were rich. that was a compromised distribution as far as manifolds go. dont think my holley will have those issues?
