My Car Smells
My Car Smells
'88 camaro
305 TBI.
As the topic says, my car is stank! In the last few months, it simply hasn't been running right, and one of the side effects is extremely pungent exhaust. As I drive down the freeway, my friends cars 10 cars back with their windows up can smell the fumes from my car.
Other symptoms of my problem:
-Lower Gas Mileage than the norm
-My car lugs at low RPM's in high gears. Moreso than normal (I can rarely use 5th gear)
-Overall less power than I used to have
-Over double allowed emisions (I got a waiver after a mechanic wasted $150 of mine)
The car has a highflow, functioning, cat that I put in myself, and no exhaust leaks. Good compression in all the cylinders. It usually runs at about 170degrees. I think it may be running very rich, but I don't know how to remedy the problem.
Any ideas?

Looks like you're about due for a tuneup.
spark plugs, wires, cap & rotor, oxygen sensor, fuel filter, air filter, fuel injector cleaner, clean your IAC
look into buying a new catalytic converter also.

oh, you have a new cat. my bad.
when attempting to pass emissions, replace the thermostat with a stock 195 degree one, because higher temps burn cleaner.
