need help making sure this will work

we have a 91 rs with the 305 TBI engine. we are planning on getting new headers, y pipe, cat, and catback exhaust. right now we are set on getting a 3" flowmaster exhaust. for the headers i was thinkin the hooker 2055 or one of the slp shorty kind. the only problem is I am not familiar with cats or y pipes so im looking for a good match to complete this system. It would also be a lot better if everything was completely bolt on and we could do it ourselves as to save some cash. all help is appreciated

I would get the slp header kit, comes with everything including the y-pipe.
I also would get a high-flow cat or just gut the old one.

SLP is pretty proud of their products. The headers aren't complete, you need an "install kit". The y-pipe doesn't maintain 3".

Hooker 2055's have a great y-pipe. I had a couple of nits with the headers themselves, but that won't bother a 305 TBI. IIRC, the driver's side A.I.R. tube points to the front on the stock LO3 manifold, while the 2055 points to the rear (driver's side only - the passenger side points to the front). This can be overcome.

A Catco 9118 cat will fit directly onto the 2055's. You may have to modify the cat hanger that attaches to the transmission tailshaft. If you can find a hanger for '86-'90 LB9 or L98, it would bolt on.

A Flowmaster 17233 (dual tailpipes) or 17151 (single tailpipe) will bolt directly to the 9118 cat and hang in the chassis.

excellent, this is exactly what I am looking for. a few more questions just to make sure I am understanding this right:

So all of these are bolt-on and dont require any welding, is that correct?

The 2055 headers come with a y pipe so I wouldn't need to purchase a seperate one?

What type of modifying are we talking here with the hanger?

And if for the time being if we can't get all of it at once, would the cat and exhaust bolt up to the stock y pipe on there now?

Starting from the bottom:

Getting the whole thing at one time is the best way, because nothing of the new parts will bolt to your factory system (which is a good thing).

For the hanger, I welded the old LG4 hanger onto the "U-bolt" of a 3" clamp and bolted it onto the I-pipe behind the cat. Worked fine.

The 2055's come with a y-pipe, and it's a good one.

No welding is required if you clamp the slip-fit joints together.
