Probably a dumb question but.....

I am in the process of swapping my new 355 into place of the original L98. I plan on deleting the cat for now at least and have a question. I plan to go into a few exhaust shops tomorrow to ask for a 3" stainless steel 24" long tube. My question is, the connection between the cat and the I-pipe looks to be a ball flange, is that simply called a ball-flange? I am taking my cat-adaptor for my SLP headers and telling them I want the adaptor to fit in one end and I want the same connector as the stock cat on the other end. I am not sure whether or not I will run without a cat permently or not which is why I want to keep the stock connection at the I-pipe. Of yeah, since they are not actually doing the exhaust work, as far as they need to know it's for my drag car.

Thanks in advance.

Ball Flange needed on I-pipe??

I tried in another post but go no response so I thought I would try joining this one. My question is on the same idea.

I am going to keep my stock cat. For those of you that purchased the Hooker 16822 and that had to cut off the I-pipe flange to fit your cat....

Did you have to get the end of I-pipe flared (into a "ball flange" as panther was asking) to fit up against the ball of the cat to seal properly?

Thanks.

That's pretty much what's on my car, except I had a hookup and he didn't care that I wanted to run with no cat lol.

You might have fitment problems, but with the 'ball-flange' thing it takes a little bit of the guess work out of it.

Mine has a 3 bolt flange on the Y-pipe side, and a 'ball-flange' on the cat-back side.

i deleted the cat on my first thrid gen, LG-4 87 Z28. i took it down to my exhaust guy, and had him cut the cat on either side. he flanged both sides of the cat., then flanged both sides of a straight pipe and flanged the exhaust where he cut out the cat. so with the drop of 4 bolts, i could take the cat out, and put in the straight pipe. he kept the ball flange on exit side of the cat, and just made the straight pipe fit it, and then bolted it in.

please, someone let me know if they dont understand this, it seems fine to me, but im not sure if you guys can picture it.
