Break-in Time for Flowmaster muffler

I just replaced my Dynomax Super Turbo muffler with a flowmaster 80 series and wanted to know how long will it take to get the nice throaty sound because it seems too quiet for what i expected right now. Just for reference it has only been on for 5 days.

theres nothing to break in on a flowmaster. the only way it will get ouder is if it gets a hole in it.

But doesn't it take time for the carbon to build up and the typical flowmaster sound to come? Maybe it's just me but it does seem to have changed slightly in tone since I put it on.

Urban legend.

It's your ear that changes, not the muffler.

From what I heard, the "break-in" or 'burn-in' time for a flowmaster is one good drive. Take it out and drive it around for awhile, letting it get fully up to temp. That's it. Mine never really sounded all that different from stock, but I wasn't looking for that loud and obnoxious noise that I hear from most of the cars around here. (Not just flowmaster systems, I mean ALL the cars that get a new exhaust. Louder doesn't necessarily mean better.) I wanted something better flowing than stock, and just a bit more of an exhaust note. I put a Series 80 Flowmaster on my Formula. (3" inlet, dual 2.5" outlets. 5 inch thick muffler, not the usual 4 inch. Makes for more of a rumble.) Original stock tailpipes and I love the way it sounds.

i've never thought 80s were all that loud. it depends from person to person. I didn't like the 80's that came on the car, so I run straight pipes with no cat now.

Some people say they sound different after awhile.. i dunno.. maybe..

I dont remember what series I had, I know it was 2.5 in/out and it was the loudest flowmaster series. I had it on my 89 2.8 V6 with a hallowed cat. It was really loud, nobody would ask if it was a V6, they would assume its an 8

The cat muffles about 30% of your engine noise, so yeah. Changes the tone alot.

Maybe its just me but the 80 series were the loudest once I put them on and after time it found its groove so to speak and quieted down just a little bit.

I don't know..... I put the Flowmaster 80 on my 89 GTA. 3" in..... Dual 3" out! No Cats. The exhaust sounds awsome! with Hedman ceramic long tubes......
When I wanna catch some attention I drive around in second gear around 3000 RPM. You can't say that it doesn't sound good!!! With the car in Drive (4th) it just hums along nicely...... not drawing any attn, ya don't need to all the time!
