The Hooker Super Competition 2055 shorties are a good choice. They are intended for the '86-'90 TPI single cat application, but work fine on an LG4 with minimal modification.
They won't attach directly to your LG4 cat, but that's a good thing because the LG4 cat is horribly restrictive, even to an LG4.
What cat-back do you have? It may have to be modified as well in order to attach to a good-flowing cat to go with the 2055's, but that's not the end of the world if the cat-back is 3" after it leaves the cat.

Hmmm, I see "socal" in the location. You might be setting yourself up for some emissions hassles. The 2055's don't accomodate the EFE valve, and Kalifornia can be picky about that. In your case, Edelbrock headers for the L69 application ("HO") may be better, as they'll flow better than LG4 headers, but you'll need to find an L69 EFE valve to make it work properly.
Chevy High Performance magazine proved that LG4 headers kill performance with a modified engine. I wouldn't say they "learned" that lesson, because they never acknowledged their mistake.

Several companies offer emissions-legal headers: Hooker, Edelbrock, SLP, Mac, Dynomax, Pacesetter, Hedman (in no particular order). The sticky point is the fact that you have an LG4, which has an EFE valve and small exhaust system through the cat. What you will wrestle with is choosing between an emissions-legal LG4 system, of which Edelbrock is the only one that offers one specifically for that application, vs. a "real" exhaust system such as the 2055's, which flow great, and you can put a direct-fit high-flow 3" cat onto, but which won't have provision for the EFE valve, which is a major restriction in LG4 form, and may be cause for failing smog inspection.
Edelbrock also make L69 application headers, p/n 68743 (68742 for ceramic coated), which would work great, if you can find an L69 EFE valve, and use an L69 cat - which will require modification to your cat-back in order to attach to the L69 cat.
I'm not all that familiar with Magnaflow products. Is the pipe after the cat 3"?

You should be able to find the EFE valve at a parts store or dealer. Or, try the Classifieds on this Board, make sure you ask for the L69 type (VIN code G).
I honestly don't know if a 3" cat on an LG4 would cause problems with Herr Inspektor. You may be able to get by with it, they may not notice/care. But, if you equip it like an L69 in all other respects, you can get it through via "motor change" inspection.

The EFE valve is attached to the bottom of the passenger side manifold, between the manifold and y-pipe.
Kalifornia is going to require CARB certified headers for the specific application. That's why something like Hooker 2055's are not going to go well for you.
If you get the L69 headers, you're going to have to have an L69 application cat.
I'm afraid there really isn't much good news when LG4 and Kalifornia are in the same sentence.
