Which Cat-Back system will provide me with more flow?

I am about a couple of weeks away from buying a full on exhaust system but I am having a hard time choosing which one....

First of all, I have heard nothing but good stuff about the hooker headers cat backs, I heard that not only are they not that expensive but they provide a very deep throaty tone that lets people know you mean business.

I have a 1991 Camaro RS 305 TBI LO3, the stock exhaust is too quiet for my taste and I want something loud on the exterior, but not much louder interior wise. Basically I am floating around two choices.

This is the Hooker catback I was thinking of http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...15&prmenbr=361

It looks good polished, I can get it cheaper on summitracing, and the next one I have in mind is this one....

Flowmaster American Thunder Exhaust system

http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...93&prmenbr=361

The Flowmasters are a bit more expensive and I am not sure if they do the same job better, or the same job the same.

So out of those two which one is the best, I want more performance out of my vehicle, I want more flow, I want more HP.

I think each of these catbacks will up me like 15-20 hp hopefully, and then I'll be installing some other crap that will be good for my car's performance.

Anyway, again I am looking for deeper more aggressive sound, more flow, more power and performance...

Thanks

doubtfull those would gain you 20hp on a fairly stock setup.
eitherway though if you are looking for flow go with a bullet muffler.
same types of muffler used on a lot of imports but don't put them down because of that. and no they won't sound the same on your car being there are 2-4 more cylinders which will greatly change the way the car sounds.

but they are a straight through design and the best ones don't put baffles they instead punch little holes in the piping going through the muffler.

this way there is very little restriction in the muffler and prolly about the best style of muffler as far as performance goes.
not the quietest though.

as far as sound that depends on the person.
some like glasspacks
some like flowmastres
some like hookers
some like dynomax
some like the turbo style mufflers
some like bullets

but not everyone agrees as to which one sounds good
that is something you are going to have to fidn out based upon WHAT YOU HEAR not what others tell you.

also good sound and good flow don't always go hand in hand

but just a muffler though? I was looking forward to changing my whole entire set up, before I ever thought of getting a catback I was gonna buy a Bullet muffler but decided not to.

I dont know...anyone else?

i have the hooker catback along with the 2055 headers and a high flow cat, and apparently it has a decent rumble to it. i can't really hear much of a difference from inside the car, but my friends have said they heard me comming from a few blocks away.

It is really not going to matter what system you pick as far as hp. You should base your purchase on what you think is going to sound better. From my personal experience, the hooker is VERY quiet, but loud at WOT. The flowmaster will be louder at idle, cruising, and part throttle. Both are about just as loud at WOT.

I'm running the Hooker 2055's, a Catco high-flow cat, and Hooker catback. I agree with both 92 and IROC about sound: a bit of a rumble normally but at WOT

i had a similar question recently (between flowmaster and dynomax) regarding the same needs as you have. i explored the soundclip section of 3rdGen, and found it to be very helpful.

i personally like more of a "raspy" exhaust note, but which ever you choose, either "deep & throaty" or "raspy" can be heard in that section.

good luck
