Its nothing special but i noticed there was no other place to put the muffler except there and not have to worry about clearence. I plan to do true duals exactly the same later. A mirror image of this setup.

I had a very similar setup on my 5.0 GTA. Mine had a Delta Flow 40 on it. Sounded nasty. I still have the pipe I used and will probably do that setup on my 5.7 GTA when I pick it up in a week or so.

I had a setup like that for awhile, and I loved the way it sounded... it had a VERY nice bark to it

I got rid of it because, basically, it was very poorly engineered by me, so it looked like crap, rattled, and it scraped on everything.

I've got dual 2.25s using perforated glass packs in the same spot as your muffler. I'm dumping at the axles though. But it has as much clearence as the stock set up. Only reason I'm using 2.25s is because I made it from a hedman y-pipe.

Is the side exhaust exit before the rear wheel "emissions" legal? I thought I heard from somebody that the exhaust had to exit behind the rear wheels.

Somebody set me straight please.

I had to run mine with an offset/offset muffler to make it fit. How well does yours tuck up under there?

I think it's illegal here Tony. The thing is, if you set up your exhaust like that, and the cops bust you, then you got to **** around putting the old exhaust back on. Prolly not a big deal though if the car is not your daily driver.

Its illegal here too, but I did it anyway, lol. Around here, if you don't draw that kind of attention to yourself, they just leave you alone.

Its a GREAT exhaust system to have in the winter though (I'm Canadian, so I mean a REAL winter, lol) because it melts all the snow right in front of your wheel(s), so you never get stuck.. the few times I did almost get stuck, I sat and idled for a minute or two... problem solved!!

I had mine set up like teh above pics. No offense, but i thought it sounded awful. It was also loud enough to wake the dead with a 40 series and I got pulled over alot. It also performed worse then a full 2.25" exhaust with the same muffler as theres not much pipe for scavanging and having the muffler that close to the engine may increase its restrictiveness. I eventually replaced it with a quiet full 3" exhaust. Just my personal opinion.

Is yours a Delta Flow 40 or a regular 40? What does it sound like?

Awesome. I hate to use the M word around here but Im trying to get close to the 5.0 Mustang sound and the crossflow exhaust just won't get it at all. The setup I had with the delta flow was close but not quite. I've seen a couple of our cars with true duals on them before, its just finding someone willing to tackle the challenge of building one.

The firing order is different on a chevy motor. Itll be hard to get rid of that chevy sound . If you have a blowmaster 80 series, getting rid of that would be a good start. Some of their other mufflers are ok, but the 40/80 series arnt that great sound wise. Just noise.

Your car has to have some nuts behind it to make a 40 series sound good!

The 40 series is ok (not as bad as teh 80) on most motors, but its too loud. I hate getting pulled over for noise. Just my personal opinion.

You are only going to get pulled over for a 40 if its sitting where the Cat is supposed to be and you have no tail pipe on it at all. If it has a decent amount of pipe on it, its not that loud. They are 50 state legal so if its installed correctly they can't do anything about it. There is only 1 way to put an 80 on there and its legal too. Never cared for the tone of the 80, if you have a 40 where the 80 is supposed to be and one tail pipe, they are not loud at all. F355 is right, 40s are kind of tame sounding on a weak motor. It takes alot of cam duration and compression to really wake a 40 up.

I had it both ways. It was loud as hell close to the motor, somewhat loud out back, and no sound at all with a crappy restrictive cat and lots of back pressure from poorly bent pipes. I didnt even know the motor was running. Alot of it also depends on how much back pressure there is in the system. I put OEM style mufflers on my brothers car and it was really loud with dual mufflers. Plug one up and the sound was cut in half. I have a full 3" force II and it sounds good with the 30 series. Quiet without alot of resonance.

Sorry to threadjack but steve87 and mean83, where did you guys get your pipes at?

They look a hella lot better than my system and they also look like they tuck up in a bit more than mine too.

the mufflers are dynomax race bullets with the 305 in it. made it sound bigger than it was alot deeper sounded awsome. the longer part of the pipe i got from summit i think it came in a 4ft length were they start to curve twardes the headers was from extra pipe we had its all 2 1/2 inch pipe cant wait to see what it sounds like with the 355. Man thats a bad *** looking camaro mean83z NICE I wish i could of got a sound clip but the 305 threw a rod

Ive seen the side exhaust exit ( I think thats what you posted) before, I had wanted that for my car, but Im unsure. Looks kinda cool and it throws exhaust tones in everyones ears!

on my stock 305 in my 86 C10, my dual 40 series Flowmaster sounded wicked with the small cam (Summit 1102) when dumped at the rear end. put the tailpipes on it, nice low rumble at idle, and still talks to ya a bit at cruise speed. nothing like the notorious Flowmaster drone. the overall exhaust system has a large effect on tone as well. more tailpipe, less tailpipe, more or less head pipe, and pipe diameters will cause extremely different tones.

Exactly. On all the cars I've owned with different motors and pipe sizes etc, I've had 40s on every one of them at some point. The larger the pipe the more noise your gonna get but loose some of the drone. The smaller diameter pipe is going to make more resonance because the exhaust is working harder to get out and its sitting in the muffler a little longer. 3" pipe will give a more lower tone, smaller pipe a more resonate higher pitch tone. Less tailpipes lower tone, more tailpipe more resonance. And every car sounds different even with the same setups. Had 2 identical '66 Bonnevilles with the exact same exhaust on them and they both sounded different. One was louder with more raspiness and one was deeper sounding with less resonance. Go figure..

how do you get that sound that is kinda bassy or like a nice smooth tone sorta like what someone on here was saying about the mustangs. i know around 2 grand or a lil more on my stock lg4 with my 80 flowmaster it somewhat had that but that was about it. anyone know of a way to get it or close with trying diff pipe sizes lengths ad mufflers?

Only real way to get that sound is true duals. The low bassy rumble is gonna be 2 1/2" duals with dumps. More Mustangish tone will be 2 1/4" duals with full length tailpipes.
