i hate the sound of my camaro!!!!
after doing a bunch of mods, new cam, intake, headers, etc.. etc...
i have shorty headers, 2.50" catback into a 80's flowmaster....
i used to like the sound now its just getting old, im thinking of switching to a hooker muffler or hallowing out the flowmaster and adding a dynomax bullet, im looking for a nice deep rumble for cheap heres what the camaro sounds like now

banks doesn't even advertise the kit, so if you want one you have to order it. i think they took about 6 weeks to make mine and ship it out. I ordered through a company called Entech. there are some pics of it on my page and i have a sound clip if you want to hear. oh btw, it's stainless and cost me 300 bucks

I put a V-Force muffler on my 89 a few years ago and like it alot. It has a deep sound to it and nice thick welds.
I don't have a clip, but I'm sure you can find one on the net.
Hope this helps.

I hated the sound of an 80 series before I put one on mine. The difference is, my 80 was modded to take the 3" tails that come with the American Thunder kit. Its 3" in and dual 3" out. Every car I have had before had 3" in and dual 2.5" out and it sounded gurgley. The 3" all the way around totally changed the sound to a much more deeper tone and I dig it alot. My car has no cat either.

Yeah... that sounded like crap. I'd chaulk it up to bad sound quality through the microphone, but I've heard other Flowmasters that sound like that as well. Kind of tinny, almost.
Go Hooker all the way. Open 2055s sound wicked!

Remember, your sound is only going to be as good as your motor. You can't put a spintech on a honda and expect it to sound like a big block.
Very good point there. I've heard 80 series before on Camaros and Monte carlos and I did not like it at all. Well I ended up coming across a good deal on a Flowmaster 80 series muffler and tips, so I bought it. Well on my car I think it sounds great. This is probably do to the big, lopey cam I'm running. So you can't always blame the muffler, sometimes it's the motor/combo your running.

It has everything to do with the motor. When I lived in Florida there were 2 guys with camaros there, one a 95 Z28 and the other a late 80s Iroc Z. Both had stout 383s in them and both had 80 series on them. They were 2 of the meanest sounding cars I have ever heard. The muffler can only sound like the motor that is running through it.

I had flowmaster for several years, and I got tired of it. I had three inch in and three inch out.
I swapped it for a Borla setup. I love the sound of it. It sounds more like a muscle car and it is adjustable too. I am running Heddman shorty headers with no converter and three inch pipe all the way back to the Borla.

Don't forget, that other than the inlet/outlet size differences, there are actually 2 different sized Flowmaster Series 80 mufflers. One is the one that I think most people get and the case thickness is 4 inches. (Summit Racing part # FLO-43083) The other one is the one that I put on my Formula and the case thickness is 5 inches. (Part # FLO-53083) With the larger volume it will give more of a rumble than the other did. Also, if you want more of a rumble and less crackle, consider some stock style tailpipes. Since the exhaust isn't directed straight out at you it, should cut down on the high frequencies and let the rumble come through.
Anyway, consider waiting until next year and going to some local car shows and seeing if someone there has a car similar to yours. If he does, ask if he will start it up and let you listen to it to see if you like it. Just remember, if it sounds too loud and nasty, having no headers, a smaller engine, less cam, having converters can all take the edge off of a nasty exhaust. Listen and find what you want. Pick a good name brand, use good materials and have all work done by someone who is concerned about quality, not time. You may spend a little more, but will be happier in the long run if everything is done right.
