that sound youre hearing is pretty normal. your engine is being forced through the power stroke at faster than it would be if you just revved it in neutral.

i would worry about a strong smell of exhasut unless its with your windows up. that is, unless you have the "vent" on your AC panel on. if it's coming through the ac vents, you may have a leak under the hood

you want deeper sound? go with a cutout. mine has a mccord power plate on it and i love it.

Seconded. I also have a MPP and I love it as well. But the only thing about that is that it's just raw sound and no tone. I'm thinking of welding a spiral muffler to the end of it.

The popping sounds about right to me. Like it's backfiring a litle bit. My '87 v6 did that all the time. It's just the sound of teh spark plugs firing, I think. I'd say the exhaust smell is unrelated. To you hear any ticking coming from under the hood?

if you're referring to a popping after you let off the pedal, it's caused by the car running slightly rich, and the gas is rapidly expanding in the pipes. Nothing to worry about in that case usually.

The smell may very well be a leak somewhere. Have a look/listen around with the car running and you should be able to find it.
