Exhaust size question

Few time I have seen a table with recommended exhaust size vs. horsepower, both for single and dual exhaust. I have tried to search but havent found it yet.

It would be nice if somebody has this table and would take the time to write it in this thread.

I have been trying to decide how big pipes I should use on my TA. I am waiting for a ZZ383 is just bought, and am going to buy Hookers 2210s (have to because of the fastburn heads). I dont want to big exhaust because I dont like to much noise.

If I had that table I could just find how big pipes I need, both for dual and single (wich I prefer cause of limited space).

Thanks, Jon H.

If the engine is making about 450fwhp or less, a 3" single, or 2.5" dual exhaust system should work just fine for you. 450fwhp is about when you would consider moving up to 3.5" single or 3" dual.

I know the table you are talking about, I've seen it too. I couldn't find it in a search either.

Yeah get a good flowing muffler and a 3" system will support alot more then you think. The muffler is the key...

Thanks a lot, now I have to find a good cat back system at a good price.

So a single 3" with a Flowmaster should be enough?

I dont like to have a to loud system (have a dual 3" on my truck and its far to loud), and this car is a street car (most of the time....).

Just wondering, found a crack in exhaust pipe. Have read alot about the dreaded 8 305 and exhaust problems. Tell me if I am in the right ballpark. As far as I know stock 305. 166,000 miles, runs like a bat out of hell. Has Flowmaster on and had cat off, put back on before I brought it. Looking at a good set of headers, 3" y pipe 3" back to cat, hi flow cat. 3" continue to back with dynomax duals. any suggestions, and dont say buy a 350.

I know this is a fact! I have Hooker 2210s, a Mufflex "Y" pipe, and a FM 3" catback (no cats), behind a 436 stroker. I removed the restrictive FM muffler, and replaced it with a Dynomax UltraFlow, and the car picked up one tenth, and one MPH! Just by changing the muffler. I doubt I will even install the Mufflex 4" system now. Just my

Hold on, you replaced a entire exhaust system amd your car picked up ONE (1) MPH. If I spent several hundred dollars to replace the entire exhaust system and it was 1 MPH quicker I would be pissed. I could add a bottle of octane and get that. Was that it

Reread the post! I nowhere said I replaced the ENTIRE exhaust system. I replaced a Flowmaster MUFFLER, with a Dynomax UltraFlow MUFFLER, on a Flowmaster catback. Showing that the FM muffler is not an efficient muffler, as compared to the Dynomax UltraFlow! Spent less than $100.00.

Also show me how a bottle of octane boost can net you 1 MPH in the quarter mile.
