Ok heres what im thinking of doing for an exhaust, im trying to get something in there that will take very minimal fabbing due to my lack of shop equipment and time in the shop.
I figure this should perform/sound good but isnt going to look very pretty and might be a bit harsh for ground clearance too...
Anyone else have a similar setup? If so, pros/cons?
Hedman Xtentions 3" 500-18701
Hedman X-Pipe 3" 500-18830
Stainless Works chambered muffler 3" 842-CR33

My skillz...

So hopefully it would look something similar to that and dump infront of axle...
Alright, let the bashing commence!

It is going to be low, mine was built for my car and it is low. My dual exhaust setup is for sale in the classifieds right now, it would be cheaper than buying all of that stuff too. PM me.

Well im ok with a 'low' setup as long as theirs more than a couple inches clearance, the setup i have now cant even go over a pop can
I would like to get your setup but after all the border fees and shipping and any other BS they nail you with nowadays when you buy across the border, it wouldnt be very cost effective!

another vote for being rediculously low...i'm guessings its gonna be close on clearing a pop can. s extensions, especially 3", are gonna make it pretty hard. then the x pipe is not going to look good either. a well respected exhaust shop did me and my buddy's irocs for custom exhaust, and he did my buddies first with an x pipe then changed his mind on mine and did an h pipe. my buddy used bullets and an x pipe and custom bent pipes and it was rediculously low and he wasn't even lowered, it was stock ride height..
i would go with a custom bent setup, and where are you planning on putting that x pipe? too far back and its gonna interfer with the driveshaft...h pipe makes things tons easier and look much cleaner..
i have like 5 inches of clearance, i'm lowered about 1.5", check otu my cardomain page i have some good exhaust pics up..

A custom bent system is out of the question, The only shop up here that did custom exhaust has closed its doors. They had also refused to put a dual system on my car before they went out of business
hmm...any reason you want/have to go with a dual setup?
how about a single 3" or something? if i had to do it over, i'd have a single 3" or single 3.5"....and thats coming from somebody who has been through this...
i just want to save you because i think you'll be disappointed with the results if you try a custom exhaust with prefabbed parts...

I wanted to go dual to get the most flow (like everyone!) Im expecting the new motor to be in the mid-high 400hp area, maybe low 500 depending how i fuel the beast. So its going to need a bit of breathing room!
If i went single its going to cost me an arm and a leg, i will need everything new from the block back. plus will have to find a way to rig up a 3" Y-Pipe...
It would just cost a heck of alot more for me to do a single than to rig up a dual with some prefab pieces like above.

gotcha. well i'm not saying you can't do it, but ground clearance is going to be terrible, because those s extensions are going to dipping way down to clear under the trans crossmember, then the pipes will just go straight back becuase you have no bender, making the center section very vulnerable when you go up and over a speed bump...
the perfect setup would be some hooker 1 3/4" LT's, mufflex 4" y pipe, and mufflex 4" catback. But like you said that will cost you some bucks. But you can find deals on used 4" setups around, just keep your eye out.
but there are members on here that have duals with s extensions, do a search and find some of them and talk to them would probably be the best thing before starting on this...

Mufflex
You might try Mufflex system. Mine is a 3" Y pipe to a 4"single exhaust and 4" Spintech muffler. Fits easily with no major fabrication. Flows well also.
Got this sytem on a 383 and it's running high 11sec 1/4 mile times thru the exhaust w/Drag radials. Should be making ~425-450hp.

Definatly not the way to go on a third gen. you don't need a dual exhaust system for 450-500hp.
There must be a truck shop in Yellowknife.

Ill say it again fbird...
NOBODY UP HERE DOES CUSTOM EXHAUST ANYMORE!!!
For now that is, maybe someone else will open up a shop in the summer but for now i have to look for prefab stuff to get an exhaust on there.
I dont think this will sit much, if any lower than my old exhaust was. It was using the S extentions to a pair of bottles and dump infront of axle. It barely ever bottomed out, that was with 2.5" pipes.

well if you had the setup already, you pretty much know what you need to do and what to expect. just expect a bit less ground clearance thats all. but it sounds like your making a pretty good ground pounder, i'm not sure what your building it for but i'm assuming its gonna be a more drag orientated car rather than a full blown everyday street car. So if you ever get into running taller tires in the rear and whatnot, that will give you a bit more clearance. But if you are building a street car and have any ideas of lowering the car in the future, i'd say look elsewhere.
but since you've done this before, and you feel you can pull it of, i say go for it...and good luck man...

I never had the X-Pipe or even a H pipe on the old system so both pipes ran directly under the driveshaft not spread apart like it is with the X-pipe. That gets me wondering about how it is going to fit in there...
Oh well maybe ill just do up a system like my old one and H pipe it so i can run both pipes together again.
