could someone please explain true duals?

when my dad and me first started getting into the F-Bodies we were wondering if we could use a true dual exhaust system on the third gen cars. we spoke to a couple of guys that work on these cars for a living and they said it would take a lot of fabricating, plus the pipes would have to be really small to fit anyway. then i joined this site and i read a few threads about it. i saw pictures too and it doesn't look like it was that much trouble.

How easily can a true dual system be installed and what are the restrictions on the size of the pipes that can be used? By the way, our particular car is an '85 IROC.

Thanks

You CAN do true duals. There are many many many threads, and many pictures. I think a thread is even stickied at the top. And use the button!!

It all depends on how much $$ and time you want to put into the system, but in any case true duals are possible.

I just built up a cheapo system to get the cops off my back, the total cost was $150ca. Not the greatest for ground clearance but it was cheap and got the cops off my back! The only problems with it hitting the ground have been the turndowns, im not sure exactly what im going to do to fix it yet maybe just cut them off

So heres my cheapo exhaust, consists of hedman 2.5" s bends, Flowmaster 2.5" H-pipe and hedman 2.5" bottles. Looks ghetto doesnt it?

Re: could someone please explain true duals?

Check out your summit magazine. I put true duals on my 84 rs. It was a kit made to fit. I think it was made by dynaflow or dynamax. one of them. Shorty headers are like 120.00 dollars. dual kit was like 149.00. Then buy the mufflers of your choice and your in business. Granted its only 2.25 in pipe, but it sounds pretty pissed off. I think you can see where mine comes out in my pic.

You don't need dual exhaust, but it can be done if you really want to. A properly sized single exhaust would work and perform just as well.
