Custom y-pipe
Hey guys. My car currently has a somewhat shoddy y-pipe underneath it.
It's ok, but it's 2 1/4" into a manmade y collector into a 3" magnaflow cat.
Would it be worth it to do another ypipe with dual 2.5" into single 3 and either remove or gut the cat?
I'm asking because I have the flowmaster ypipe sitting in my garage for over a year now. Is it worth it, considering the camshaft I'm running?
I remember reading in Chevy High Performance were someone asked a very similar question, and McClelland said go for it, but I'm always skeptical with journalists.

Ok, so let me get this straight. You already have the Y-pipe ready to bolt in? If so, then why not go ahead and install it? If you are looking at it for a big gain in performance, I wouldnt really expect too much there, but then again that depends on just how much your motor needs to breathe.
I once had a custom built Y-pipe put on my Iroc for my Hooker shorty headers. The muffler shop did an awful job and it was very restrictive when I finally took it out and got a look inside. But you already have yours ready to go, so you should try it if you have some free time.

I should have been more specific.
I just have a universal y collector from flowmaster. (dual 2.5" into 3")
I'm thinking maybe 10 horsies by opening up the y a bit and gutting the cat.

Do it as the factory "Y" is very restrictive. The one from Flowmaster is very good. You should see an easy 10 horses. There have been reports of more power being gained depending on the restrictions.
