Header Y pipe question

i just got some shorty headman headers. i have to keep it legal becausei live in cali. The header collectors are 3 inches but the Y pipe exit is like 2 1/4 is that normal or do they make them in 3' because i'm having my whole exhaust 3inches. should i return them and get 3 inches at the Y pipe exit so the whole exhaust is 3 inches or just make it 3 inches after the Y pipe does it make that much difference thanks. and if i should return them which ones should i buy and where that come with a Y pipe and are street legal for my 89 TPI (changing to carbed though and out of a 89 vette GOING INTO MY 85 FIREBIRD). thanks

y-pipe

Most y-pipes are tapered down to their final size. If your pipe is like most that I've seen, you can find the area in the "y" that is approximately 3" and cut if off there. Then weld your 3" pipe on.

Good Luck
