My Decision on Headers Back
I have decided to go with a system that alternates between 2.5 and 3inches based on my cousin (the exhaust mechanic and 450hp stang owners) advice. I'm going with hooker 2460 which is 1-5/8 primarys to a 3" collecter to a 3" in 2.5" out hooker Y. 2.5" intermediate pipe and a 2.5" in to 3" out custom over the axel pipe. All this to a classic series 40 3" in dual 2.5 out. I'll use dumps to solve my problem of the change in muffler outlet locations. I think its gonna sound bitchin, add full flow and just enough backpressure for my engine with the 2.5 intermediate pipe. What do you think?

Well then I'm gonna have to make a 3" intermediate pipe when i get the money and time. Until then I'm going with that setup. I can always cut the y pipe before it tapers and change my over the axel inlet to 3inch with one cut and one weld.

This will work, but you will want to switch to a 3" pipe for sure later on. Backpressure is what you don't want!
You have to consider where your car is going to be running RPM wise. Sounds like this is a street car. With those 1 5/8" primaries on the shorties you're already set for an RPM band where the street is in mind. If you run 2.5" pipes you're going to choke down the motor too the point where it isn't tuned length exhaust anymore - it's just a restriction.

Alright well thanks for your help guys! Anyone know if those dynomax intermediate pipes for our cars (3in) will bolt up to the hooker Ypipe?
