Hooker Shorty Installation Question
Hey guys,
it says that the headers need to be installed by jacking up one side of the motor to slide one in...
but i was wondering, since i'll be removing my AC And AIR system and getting that crap out of the way before i put these headers in, would i still have to do that or can i work them in there without having to jack the engine up.
if anyone knows for sure please let me know... wanna get this done in the next couple of days... thanks!
ps. already got the AC out need to remove the smog system and switch out the smog headers for the non smog headers

driver side unbolt the steering shaft and maybe take plugs out...passenger side take back plugs out and theres a sensor there maybe that needs to be taken out and work it in from the bottom use a rubber malet if u need to

i installed my shorties, the driver side can be installed withouth going underneath the car, but of course you had to undo the steering column mechanism that goes to the pump .. which is a bolt away.. for the required space..... the passenger side had to be installed at the bottom of the car, because of the firewall got in the way. and if you used hedman ... like me.. you had to either pull down the header, which of course you can only bend the pipes 1/2 an inch. so it wont meet up your heater pipe.. of course you had to move the header at certain angles to get it positioned to the motor.. dont force it to much or you have to replace your valve cover, but hey if you can find a better way to install the passenger side without going under the car i would like to know!!!

cool so the pass side should be my major problem then... cause i have ceramics and i don't want those babies to get scratched
... did you mean i had to feed it up from the bottom or pull down from the top with them?

You don not have to install the hooker shorties from under the car....nor do you have to unbolt the steering shaft. You do need to remove all of your plugs,as well as the temp sens. for the fans. They will go in from the top with no problems.
Good luck,

I just removed a set of 2460's from my car to install my Headman longtubes.....It took me a total of about 30 min. to remove the 2460's....I didn't have a y pipe on it........my car had AC so all that crap was still in the way(only thing removed was the compresor and lines). It may help to put your car up on ramps/ jackstands so you don't have to bend so far over.Once you get the old manifolds off....(start spraying them down now with some kind of penetrating oil) and the stock y pipe out of the way you will have plenty of room to install the hooker shorties.
Good luck,

84ZMIKE, you didnt have any problems going in from the top on either side? I've got a set of Hedmans that I'm putting in this week, and I was gonna go up from underneath on the passenger side, and wasnt sure about what to do on the drivers side. Sounds like I'll try unbolting the steering shaft and going in from the top.

I am really not sure how people have problems with this? I have installed mine from the top with no problems and no scratches... took 30 minutes to put new ones on and torqued. (not counting removal)

it was easy as hell to put my 2055's in.I have both my smog and a/c removed though.the only little problem I had was getting the driverside header in. i had to pull back and bend the brake lines a bit to guide it through.

lol, I've done a couple sets of headers on my buddies cars, so either way I'll figure it out. I've got the car on jack stands now and the old exhaust off, so I'll take my time and get it done. Thanks for the help guys.
