Re: Looking for a catback? Start here!
that file wont play directly you have to save it to your computer open it then play the file inside.
for windows xp
right click on the link
select "save target as"
choose your desktop
after it saves the file on the desktop
go to the desktop if you double click on it, windows xp should be able to open it it should open similar to a regular window and show a media file inside.
let me know how you do.
(these instructions are assuming you are using win xp and internet explorer)

Re: Looking for a catback? Start here!
considering i'm not computer illiterate... The way you suggested would be the way I attempted to open the ile the first time. I dont think that you zipped the file correctly. Try posting it on you tube or another site like it and copy the link. It would be the easier way...

Re: Looking for a catback? Start here!
Ok I am a true newbe. I just picked up my 1991 Z28 5.0 last Friday (had a 1990 RS new before it was taken by some a..) and have already ordered over $2000 worth of stuff (please don not tell the wife )
So I just ordered my Cat back Borla Exhaust, I am still running my Cat and can not change the headers just yet...
Is this going to take away from the quality of the exhaust?
BTW: I ordered the system from amazon.com they actually had the cheapest price I could find.. They display the wrong picture but I called and confirmed it is the correct part Borla 14888 Cat Back System $790 Free shipping..

Re: Looking for a catback? Start here!
wow are those borlas expensive.... i never was crazy about the sound either but i guess its adjustable so thats a plus.
no headers will cut off some of the sound but it should still sound ok without them. what i'd do if you want abit more tone is gut the stock cat converter or get a highflow unit. that will greatly improve the tone and sound levels

The sound is pretty kool. I happen to think the tone is just perfect.
Ok so who could tell me how do you adjust the sound?

Re: Looking for a catback? Start here!
your borla kit should have come with plates that you can put in the passenger side tail pipe right after the pipe comes over the axle and splits into the muffler. I believe there are three different plates, each have a different size hole through the middle. the bigger the hole the louder it is.

Re: Looking for a catback? Start here!
I just picked up a 4th gen borla catback for cheap and got it hung today (not plumbed yet so I'm not sure how it's going to sound). I'm not big on polished stuff and I was a bit worried about the tips at first, but I think they came out subdued enough.. it's growing on me anyway. It seems like a good system if you can find one second-hand.. I certainly couldn't have afforded it new. Overall the 4th gen kit was a slight pain to retrofit, but all that needed to be done from a fabrication standpoint was to make a few hangers.

I have a 305 TPI stock everything. I want a nice deep sound for normal driving but when I step on it, I want it to really make some noise... any ideas on what would be best?

Hey guys, seeing as though this is a thread to help people find cat back clips, I just thought I'd post the link to a vid of my 91' Firebird 305 tbi with the 3" Edelbrock SDT cat back. Everything is completely stock except for the cat back.

Re: TSP Rumbler
Yes. I have.
It sounded like a pickup truck with glasspacks. Raspy as hell in the mid rpm range as you can hear at the end of the vid. That snapping/clapping sound has to be the gayest sound ever.
The tailpipes don't line up right. You have to re-bend the pass side tail if you want them to be evenly spaced.

I hate my flowmater american thunder what a waste of time and money. The fit is sub par at best. I just finished my ground up restore and had nothing but problem. They hit the driveshaft balance, burned a hole it a new e brake cable, hits in four spots on the fresh paint under the car and to top it all off every time the trans shift it bang the pan hard.
----------
Oh by the way, if I did make myself clear they are junk. Great post thank you for the time you invested it will save me time looking for the flowmaster replacement!

How about this one, the only one I found for a 92 firebird formula 305 tbi.
I also read somewhere that I should change my cat converter, is it possible to upgrade it or should it be stock?

If you need to be emissions legal you can go with a high flow cat and still pass.

Re: Looking for a catback? Start here!
I'm in the market for a cat back on my 82 Z. Actually I'm going to revamp the entire exhaust system, the 2 1/2 isnt big enough I'm getting too much back pressure and I want to go with a 1 3/4 primary LT header with a 3" collector but I gotta find a Y pipe and test pipe, right now I'm running no muffler, n cat just the original 2 1/2 that came on the car (had the 2 mufflers with cross pipe that were rotted out cant argue with a free fix). Ilove the deep tone of my straight pipe but it get that annooying crackily sound at high RPM. The car has a 385 stroker, healthy cam and an 800DP carb any idea's, suggestions?

I have a 1989 camaro rs 5.0 305 tbi; would this still work even though it says 5.7?
http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...zone=all&id=95
(the 5.0 and 5.7 don't look any different and there sizes are the same)
I heard lots of good reports of magnaflow so i think i might go with these! I just want an opinion or two before i buy. ( i haven't seen any vids on 305 tbi camaros with magnaflow exhaust thats why i hesitated to buy..)
regards,
Timinsk

Re: Looking for a catback? Start here!
Iam surprised that Pypes was left out. I had the edelbrock system on my 305. Very disappointing, none the less. So I decided to get a pypes violator muffler put in place of the edelbrock one. Boy did it make a difference. They make catbacks mostly for mustangs, but they also make a few for camaros. Its sounds really good, super loud too.

Stainless Works:
Stainless Works doesn't make any catback systems, but they sell two other items of interest. Everything they sell is made of stainless steel, BTW.

I was told that the Flowmaster #17233 would not work on the "LO3" and I would need to purchase #17234. Is this correct?
The 17234 is a 2.5" and the 17233 is a 3" exhaust system
Thanks,
Jack

Re: Looking for a catback? Start here!
The video I've posted below was originally in post #2 on page 1, entitled, "Random Tech Clip #2," but that link is not good anymore. So here's a new link:
http://s61.photobucket.com/albums/h5...yExhaust1a.mp4
The engine is original, not-rebuilt, still-stock LB9 305 TPI with exhaust manifolds. But from the manifolds: MAC stock-replacement mandrel-bent y-pipe(2-1/2" downpipes into a 3" collector to the cat); Random Technology 3" cat; Random Technology 3" exhaust system(3" I-pipe; 3" in/dual 3" out straight-through muffler; dual 3" angle-cut tail pipes).
From start-up in the video, the engine runs through its fast idle cycle(you'll hear it idle down at the 34-second mark), then I rev it a couple of times and run it up to about 4000 rpms. The camera is off-center behind the car, making the exhaust look like it isn't centered, but it is.
I had no idea what to expect, sound-wise, from this exhaust system, but its size and design made sense, and I liked its simplicity too. So I got it, and I'm glad I did. I love it. Its sound resembles a 4thgen Corsa exhaust system. It might be a little too civil-sounding for most people, but driving down the road, it turns heads; at smog tests, it attracts a crowd; and at a slow cruise in 2nd gear through neighborhoods and parking lots, it sets-off car alarms. And when I'm on the freeway, its sound reflecting off the concrete divider sounds great. I never had that with the stock exhaust.

Re: Looking for a catback? Start here!
It seems like nobody has ever heard a Mac Cat back on a 100% stock thirdgen,
i ordered
Mac P/N: TKC691
I have a Bone stock 89 RS L03
only things done to the motor are regular maintenance and an Open element
stock manifolds, stock Y ,and stock Cat will stay and the Mac catback will be put on, then i will take a video of Idle and Rev and post it here for everybody to see and hear
ive heard this system on a 350 camaro and a 305 TPI Bird but both of those were far from stock and had full exhaust, i just want everybody to hear what a stock 305 TBI will sound like with this cat back
..........
and if anybody has a clip like i am describing please post it, i would like to know kind of what it will sound like before i get it here lol

IIRC, a few years ago, the History Channel show, Full Throttle, mildly built a couple of '88 IROCs, and they installed the MAC exhaust system on one of them, maybe both of them. So if you can find the show, maybe online, there's your example.

In searches, I've found several guys using MAC headers and liking them, but only a couple of guys who mentioned they had the MAC exhaust system, also giving it good reviews. But I've found no video clips of it.
IIRC, a few years ago, the History Channel show, Full Throttle, mildly built a couple of '88 IROCs, and they installed the MAC exhaust system on one of them, maybe both of them. So if you can find the show, maybe online, there's your example.

and actually i started a thread on here a few weeks ago about that show(i didnt know it was full throttle when i posted the tread) and ended up buying it off ebay for 1.99, i know they put exhaust on both the irocs but didnt know if it was mac or not, i love the sound of the Mac catback, but in the show it was on supercharged 350's and the ones ive heard in person were on heavily modded engines with full exhaust
i will be doing it with a bone stock RS and the catback will be the only exhast the car gets will be interesting to hear what it sounds like
thanks for looking out and posting what you've found

Dynomax Super Turbo Catback. Very Stock sounding.
At Summit: Dynomax Super Turbo Exhaust Systems: WLK-17493 - summitracing.com
At Summit: Dynomax Super Turbo Exhaust Systems: WLK-17493 - summitracing.com
does this fit the 5.7TPI ?
Summit only shows 5.0
I figure they are the same configuration
I only need confirmation
and isn't that too cheap for a catback
especially with a $75 rebate?
also which dynomax ultra flow cat back is
correct for the 91 L98? ...got sound?

Re: Looking for a catback? Start here!
Magnaflow just came out with a cat back system that fits my 88 camaro perfectly. Great sound. I have a modified 350 cu inl. (now 355) Edelbrock aluminium 202 heads, high flow water pump and headers, crane roller rockes, borch injectors, MSD ingition) so it will sound somewhat different on a stock engine.
