changing just the muffler on a catback

I just bought an 87 TA 305TPI and the exhaust looks non-stock. It is stainless steel and fairly clean looking still.

However, it is whisper quiet....

What do I need to look at to see if I can just change the 1 inlet / 2 outlet muffler? The inlet and outlet pipe diameter? Are the inlet and outlet postions the same on most mufflers?

Thanks.

I would just buy a muffler for a 3RD gen camaro, if you are buying from a manufacture, just ask for a muffler that will fit your car. Or if you can at least look at a muffler before you buy it and make sure your inlets/outlets are in the same position. Im guessing if its aftermarket, prolly 3" inlet and two 2.5" outlets. Good luck.

i have a flowmaster muffler with the pipes coming out of the back and quad chrome tips you could buy. but shipping would be a lot so you would probably be better off getting one at the store or somethin like that.

yeah just find out the pipe size on your car now, and find one to fit accordingly. if you want to retain stock style outlets and such, then get a stock replacement style muffler like flowmaster, hooker aerochamber, or spintech, etc

else you can run any muffler you want back there. a small single in single out will work too, just dump the tail pipe below the bumper or just run a single tip out back
