Right size pipes on true duals?
I am going true duals on my 85 Trans Am.The muffler shop says that they have to run 2" pipes because of clearance. Is 2" to small? It has a carb 350 bored 40 over if that means anything.

you running manifolds or headers
if manifolds then what diameter outlets ?
no pint in going larger pipe if youre smaller at the front
see
2.25" pipe would be the largest i would run on such an engine
really.
good luck

and find some pics. print them off and take them to the exhaust shop....I wouldn't waste the time and money going less than 2.5.Good luck,

I'm by no means an authority here (didn't know anything about V8's 5 years ago) but
the answer depends on the rpm's you want to be able to spin it to.
I encounter "the wall" at 3500 with a single 2.165" pipe on my 305, and according to the recommendations in the stickies here I will want to go for 2.5" duals, the biggest that could be considered suitable for a 305 @ 5500.
My calculations predicts that you will hit "the wall" between 5000 and 5500 with 2" duals on a 350, I think it would be slightly restrictive.
Of course everything in an engine depends upon each other and as you see you get just as many opinions.
Just my
