exhaust ports and headers!?!?

hey guys i've hunting for the right set up for my 86 camaro 350cu. currently i have stock 73 heads with round exhaust ports ( 1.5" circle) with matching ( 1.5" circle) hedman shortie headers. i have looked into gmpp fastburn heads, trick flow, some edelbrock and brodix heads which advertise ( D shape exhaust ports). some edelbrock, and AFR advertise square port exhaust (1.5" X 1.5") now i can't find anyone that makes shortie headers for this port design. and i don't see any heads advertising the round port. is there something i don't see here or can i just not use edelbrock or AFR's on a third gen without using full length headers.

if anyone has run into this problem or have used some of the edelbrock heads or AFR heads on a third gen please fill my blank spots. thanks justin.

Just find the right flanges for the heads, cut the old ones off and weld the new ones on your old headers...

On my Z24 i'm running round port flanges on D port heads (larger than LT1 ports).. i welded a bit extra on the flanges and used my die grinder to smooth out the transition.

so the 1.5" round port hedders are larger than the D ports? because i have the round flange headers will they work with D port heads?

they will work as long as the mounting holes line up.. flow won't be optimal if there is overlap. Generally you want the header primaries larger than the exhaust port.

In my case i just modified the round ports but there wasn't much of a difference between them and the D ports on the heads. There was about 1/16" of overlap and i just rounded the transition a little.

here is a pic of the gaskets i used VS the head.. http://www.superdave81.com/Z24/gen2gasket.jpg
