exhaust leak

how much hp does an exhaust leak cost because my car leaks badly were the slp y-pipe goes into the headers it also leaks really bad were the y-pipe collector goes into the cat adapter (sounds really horrible) the reason why it leaks at the y-pipe header connection is because if i tighten the one clamp to were the header meets the y-pipe the flange hits the starter and i think thats what caused my last dead starter. and it leaks at the y-pipe collector to cat adapter because the band clamp doesnt seem to clamp them completly shut for some reason and it leaks out of where the clamp isnt complety compressed on the pipe. Basically how much hp am i looseing and how can have a leak free exhaust without having any problems.

I don't know how much, if any hp you are losing. I have been told by experienced people that to just about guarantee a leak free exhaust, have all your joints welded by a reputable shop. I installed hooker shorties, 3" exhaust, cat delete, and flowmaster muffler about a month ago. My son and I bolted everything up, then took it to muffler shop. they charged $300. 00 to weld everything. Hooker recommended that all joints get welded in their instruction manual. Hope that helps. BTW, things are a little more expensive around where I live, hopefully not as expensive where you live.

I have mine 100% welded, except for where the headers meet the Y-pipe. Guess where it leaks??? I'm thinking about doing something to allow more flex, so it won't leak there anymore.
