Hooker 2055 Y-pipe hitting oil pan

I've been searching to find if anyone else had this problem. I don't have a stock Camaro block, it's a 350 block from a '79 truck. The oil pan is basically a Summit stock replacement for the block. During the Hooker 2055's install, I was tightening the y-pipe to the collectors and found the driver's side tube of the y-pipe resting against the oil pan. The y-pipe is coated, but I still don't think it's a good idea to drive it with the pipe resting on the pan. Does anyone else have this problem? Should I be using a different oil pan? Any suggestions? Thanks.

I'm using a ZZ3 pan with no issues.

Sounds like this is one of those odd-ball SBC pans that doesn't fit 3rd gen f-body. You need the 2-piece RMS and driver's side dipstick, which means whatever is out there isn't particularly intended for 3rd gens. But, many, many people have put those earlier engines into our cars with 2055's, so it can't be Mission Impossible.

BFH to the pan, if nothing else. . .

I ran into the same problem on my 406. I used the summit pan, it fit fine in the chassis. But it doesnt have quite as much clearance as the newer style pan. But the newer pan didnt fit the older block.

I ended up extending the Edelbrock pipe down slightly. The Slps i have now didnt need anything done they fit with the older style pan.

Hmm...Interesting

Thanks for the replies. I don't have any experience welding so I guess i'll have to get someone to extend the pipe down some for me. I wonder if anyone out there with an older block and 2055's could chime in and tell me what they did. That'd be cool, but i'll look into my options in the mean time.

Take it down to an exhaust shop and see if they can extend the y-pipe a bit for you. Thats what I did with my Hedman Y-pipe.

I've got a non 3rd gen specific pan on my 350 and my SLP y-pipe rests on the pan. Been this way for almost 10 years with no problems.
