Just another stuiped side exhaust question

I just watched "gone in 60 seconds", and the exhaust on "elanor" the 1967 mustang, would it be possible to mod our stock body kits to alow for a simlar exhaust? and if so how would one stop the head from killing the paint around the tip.

I often wondered about this and how it could be done.

But there again I grew up in the 70-80's and side pipes were the rage. I remember when I was 9 years old (late 70's) my best friend's brother had a 1974 TransAm with a 400-4 speed, shaker hood scoop, shackled rear end, yellow traction bars, Cragar SS wheels, and 3 inch chrome side pipes. I remember it being one of the loudest and fastest cars I had ever ridden in (childhood memory does that to you). Every time he fired up that car we ran out to the driveway to bum a ride around the block and listen to Kiss on the "Craig Power Play" 8-track.

The things we remember.

Well,I just bought a 1983 T/A with a rebuilt SB 400, and it happens to have 3" chrome side pipes with heat guards. They don't get too terribly hot, but you can definately feel the rumble on either side of the car...

In all honesty, you can do this with enough heat protection and $. if you used all oval pipe or things like that and some nice double rolled tips. You can do anything.

I was gonna try to do it till I ran out of $ and made myself a true dual set up with dumps. This is so increadibly loud I have to change it all. It will be cool to bring to the track and swap these pipes in.

Someday i still might do oval pipes and go to the sides, but hide the pipes till you get to the tips, then maybe cut and form the GFX back there with fiberglass. Not sure though. That would be in a couple years.
