If you don't like flowmaster stop reading now...

I had heard a clip of a 40 and it sounded sweet, so I thought head in that direction... I saw the super 40, deeper tone, less interior resonance and better flow, so I bought one, 3" in 3"in out (I'm only having 1 pipe, exhaust is hidden...

Well, I was calling around to muffler shops and of course, no one does mandrel bends ($10k machines), so I looked into a catback kit from Flowmaster....

17151... 3" catback. On their site it says, 30 series... I spoke to them & they said that muffler is no longer made, that kit uses a super 40... so I thought great, the muffler I wanted, now I got an extra one...

I called Summit, cuz thier site also says 30 series, but the guy verified, the part number is for super 40, so yes, that's what you'll get....

Low and behold my packaga arraives with a 30 and one of the pipes isn't "hydrastrched".... I call flowmaster and speak to dan... I tell him my kit has a 30 series & he says, "consider yourself lucky, those aren't made anymore". I told him I was supposed to get a super 40 (by thier own words and summit) and he said that is a better muffler, super 10 shootout, prefered by the son of some nhra drag racer who works their dyno, etc... He prefered it... He also offered to talk to the local muffler shop and get my hydra strech done on their dime...

The super 40 is not as wide, so it would need some custom fab, or I could send the kit back and get one for the super 40.

My question...

For those who have heard the 30 series and the super 40, which do you prefer and why?

I've listened to a few clips on line, 30 sounds deeper than the 40, which is kinda what the super 40 sounds like...??

I am actually looking at the Flowmaster 17150 right now and it also says it comes with a 30 series, but the Flowmaster website says that part number has been replaced with a Super 40.

My question is actually back to you sir, I'd love to hear these clips that you are talking about, can you tell me where I can find them?

That's my same setup, but dual cats I think...
On the flowmaster website, across the tops there are choices, one of them has sound clips with 40, super 40, 30 etc...

Unless you have the person open up the kit before sending and check, you may get either...

Physically, the 30 is longer by a few inches, the super 40 is longer than the 40... from what it sounds like, deeper / lower tone... still sounds nice, just not as loud or mid boost as the 40...

I'm selling my super 40 and going with the 30. Keep in mind that's a single exit out (not dual) flows better than the 1 in 2 out design & from what people say, it's a hideaway design too, so you don't really see the pipe that much. (fine with me!)

Go to google and do a search for other exhuasts clips too...the 30 is just deeper and lower...

I also have the 17150 bought it last year and i LOVE this exhaust is sweet sounding and i love the one outlet. Shame they added a super 40 to it.

Flowmasters don't flow well...

Seems to work pretty good, I know people running 8's on these 30 series.

Yes, the 40 2 chamber don't flow well, but there are 10 other models.... and the 30's are their original race muffler.

Thats a little broad isnt it? 80 series and a flowmaster 1 chamber are going to be worlds apart as far as flow.

And just since we're keeping tabs, any 1 in 1 out muffler flows better than any brand 1 in 2 out... So many people ask for the best exhaust... the one in / one out performs better, but most people like the 2 out pipes... I'm hiding my one out anyway
