mounting to stock head pipes question

Are there any header that can be purchased that mount up to the stock head pipes? Or will I have to go to a muffler shop to have the head pipes modified to mount to the headers?

The latter.

Unless, of course, you get headers that include the y-pipe for the application you have. You didn't give any details (year, engine, induction, etc.).

It's an 88 camaro. My 15 year old son and I replaced the worn out 305 with a 350 Crate motor from my pickup truck. We are going to fix it up, kind of like the Kurt and Derek did with their 82 last year. Read that thread yesterday.

That Kurt & Derek thread was something else. A whole bunch of detail about a very involved project.

Is your '88 an RS model? If so, it has the restrictive 2-1/4" exhaust. It all needs to go if you want to give that 350 a chance to breathe. Headers only would help, but not a whole lot. By the time you buy the headers and pay the muffler shop, you could have gotten good headers with a good y-pipe (unless you know the muffler shop owner, of course. . .).

I'm not sure whther it is a RS model or not. I know that it is not an IROC. I'll measure the exhaust pipes and see. I'm going to purchase a set of headers with a Y pipe from another fellow on this forum. They came off his 86 iroc. $125.00 including shipping. Seems like a good price to me. But, if my pipes are the 2-1/4" variety then they won't bolt up without going to the muffler shop. I hate to fork out the funds to have the whole exhuast system replaced. I certainly hope the pipes are not 2-1/4".
