Longtube Headers?????

I can buy a set of longtubes and ''y'' pipe for an LT1. My question is, will they fit or can I make them fit my '88 GTA without any body clearance issues? The body on the newer LT1's can't be a whole lot different. I want the torque from the longtubes. I can get around any smog related issues..

I can't imagine them fitting. Also, long tubes will gain you more horsepower at upper rpms and cause you to lose torque. I've heard by many people that a 1-5/8" primary is a good size.

no.
4thgen headers kickout to the side and just dont fit... also, even if they did fit on there, the Ypipe uses areas of the floorpan that dont fit on a 3rdgen...

longtubes dont cause a loss of torque... oversizing the primary tubes can, but the length of the tubes doesnt cause that... longtubes can actually help increase torque, if designed for that.

be sure to know what the hell you're talking about before giving advice.

Long Tubes give you torque down low. Shortys are high rpm HP. It has to do with tube length and reversion pulses.

wow... thats stupid... you got something totally incorrect.

longtubes are for high RPM power AND torque.

shorties are a compromise that are only an improvement in a thirdgen because the stock manifolds suck so horribly.

OMG please people. READ SOME BOOKS!!!!! NOT just crap on the net. It is a very well know fact that if you have headers that are the right size for your motor in long tube style, they will make more hp and tq. Shorties are good for making some extra tq and thats about it, maybe a little more mid hp cuz the better flow. If someone tries to tell me that my 2210 hooker long tubes make less hp/tq than a set of SLP shorties on my 500hp 385, they are what I like to call a "special needs" kid.
