dynomax or flowmaster?
I'm ready to change my exhaust on my '87 Z vert and not sure which one is better. Cost -wise, they both seem to be about the same.
Any suggestions? Thanks Rick

depends what you want. dynomax=better flow, flowmaster = better sound.
Not to say flowmaster's flow is bad, both are lightyears ahead of what stock is, but dynomax has an edge on the flow over flowmaster.

I prefer HOOKER its loud yet not poppy like flow master, magnaflow would be my second choice it has a real deep tone but the hooker also comes with the dual tips the look sweet on a camaro

i had a dynomax and it was just to quiet for me, next im buying a force pro series muffler from jegs, basically, its flowmasters that are aluminized, so they wont rust out like the flowmasters will, are have fully welded casese and from what ive seen on frends mustangs IMO alot better build quality the rustmasters, oh ya, there only $35
if you want a dynomax i have on i will sell you for $20 plus shipping, i had it on for about 2 miles and sounded like stock so i just put in a 1' peice of pipe from autozone and called it a day, 2.5 inlet/dual outlet

is that dynomax and ultraflo or super turbo? theirs a difference..i know dynomax ultraflo's are the best flowing muffler on the market.
Id have to say go with the dynomax ultra flow . My father had the dynomax cat back with super turbo muffler on his 84 z28 , way to quiet . I put the ultra flow catback on my 88 iroc z .I think it sounds good my buddys agree deep and not loud and obnoxious no interior drone . And i threw in a hollowed out cat and i could def feel the difference in power with both of those on. It deff sounds good tho id go with it

Are you just replacing the muffler or complete cat back?
If the cat back, order one from Jegs / Summit because they are mandrel bent. 99% or muffler shops don't have a $10k mandrel bending machine, they would crush bend, which doesn't flow as smooth...
I got a flowmaster, but 1 in / 1 out... I'm hiding my pipe, so I would prefer the better flow than the traditional 1 in / 2 out (worse flow).

ok ok
I have this same problem , i can't make up my mind between these two brands.
i have an 85 berlinetta the exhaust was done 2 years ago. I asked the guy i bought it from about it because it sounded custom to me. He said no its stock...but when he got the car back it sounded that way. its the standard 1 in ,2 out .
My deal is that i dont know what sound i want. I did find this one cat back on ebay that is custom made.
"THIS IS MADE OF 14 GAGE HEAVY DUTY ALUMINIZED TUBING, THIS ELIMINATES THE MUFFLER FOR MORE FLOW AND A LOUDER SOUND,THERE IS A CHAMBER IN THE CENTER TO SPLIT THE FLOWTHIS HAS A 2 1/4" INSIDE DIA.FOR THE INLET PIPE , THE TAIL PIPE SECTION IS 3" OUTSIDE DIA. "
I live in California so i'm a little worried about not having a muffler.

Mine sounds great, 3" Flowmaster cat-back with Magnaflow high flow cat, Pacesetter headers, 3 1/2" tail pipes. Working on getting my sound clip on here.

I figured I'd just chime in.
Here's my flowmaster 80s at idle. I think it sounds good, but I dont know what the dynamax sounds like. It's a 305 LO3 with completely stock internals and a gutted cat.

I will say righta round 1700 RPMs or so, the whole system just starts resonating like a tuning fork and just sounds... not really bad but... all I can say is on a long trip after your ears fatigue from all the road noise and engine noise, it'll REALLY get to you. Normally, though, it's no big deal. Happens from 58-62 mph with a peak right around 60.

Flowmaster 80 Series without question. Make sure to put on a nice high-flow converter also.
