Timing tune

Hi, I have a 91 Camaro 305 engine z28 in Italy, sorry for my english...

I have a stockengine L98 with upgrades; 24 lb injectors, 58 throttle body, performance headers, dynomax muffler, full open exhaust (no cat).

The L98 have 6 grades tune, can I tune up timing by coil? How much grades?

Thanks!

Re: Timing tune

your 305 injector choice is to big. 19lbs is factory. And can easily handle your current set-up!! you should have re-tuned your ECU with a 350 calibration. you could bump up your static timing 1-2 deg. But this would also need to be matched in the ECU "Eprom" tune. I'll bet your are making diamonds running rich..

Re: Timing tune

Hi, yes the 24 lb are big, but I have open air flow with 58 throttle body and open other steps in a plenum air induction.

1 or 2 grades in up?

Ca you advise me for a accel or msd module ?

Re: Timing tune

Are you referring to ignition control box OR timing control:

http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/ms...timing-control
http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/ms...on-control-box

No need for this at your current level.. Still no need to waste your $money$

or are you looking for a control module?

I'm a little confused. Your car currently has a 305 5.0L or a 350 5.7L? 24lb injectors are excessive unless you has the computer corrected for it.

As far as "grades tune", do you mean timing degrees?

And aftermarket ignition boxes are not needed for factory setups. I've seen more cheap units fail than I've seen them give better performance.

I hope that made sense.

Re: Timing tune

Thanks foryour answer...

The car have a 305 engine with upgraded 24 lb injectors (it's big) + 58 throttle body + full exhaust

I have upgrades injectors and throttle body (this weekand), but the car noticeable increase in power, It is the same as before or little little more power...

I search a economy solution to have power with easy solution install (no cam swap or heads ecc...)

This is the situation:

exhaust upgraded, fuel upgraded, air upgraded, can I upgraded electricals for have power and results??

Timing degrees it's a good solution?

or I must upgrade with control module performance or chip module performance (it's work or it's money down the drain?)

Thanks and sorry for my english!!

Re: Timing tune

OK. You have a 305, that makes it a LB9 not a L98. L98's were 350s. In which case your injectors are BIG. Your engine is VERY rich (too much fuel). You will want to have that ECM retuned for your modifications. I don't know how available that is for you since there aren't a lot of ECM tuners here that still work with our older cars.

As far as timing degrees, base should be set to 6*. That's with the little brown and black stripe wire on the right side of the engine bay disconnected. You can bump it up to 8* or 10*, but that should also be corrected in the ECM tune.

I'd stick with the factory type ignition system. It's not holding you back. Too much fuel and an untuned ECM could and probably is holding you back.

Re: Timing tune

Ok, thanks.

In this situation, can I add power with timing degrees?

or I have to buy performanche chip or other module?

Thanks.

Re: Timing tune

NO. Gain with your Stock.. Setup.. Find someone that can program your Car's computer.
or put the 19lbs injectors back-in. Or purchase a 350 factory chip for your specific year car.
you do not NEED any aftermarket ignition components!!!

Re: Timing tune

I haven't seen him on the boards lately but, 'Tuned Performance' is a member on these boards. He can burn you a custom chip. It won't be as good as having the car in his hands to tune but he will burn a better chip than any "performance jet chip" Those jet things are garbage. Tuned Performance is MUCH better.

Re: Timing tune

I can also vouch for the aftermarket off the shelf chips being useless.
I pulled a Hypertech out of a car I bought and checked it out with my chip burner/reader and the differences between it and stock were pretty negligible
